It’s official: Charles McAdoo is a big leaguer.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced earlier today that Lenyn Sosa will be heading to the IL with a wrist injury, and the club is promoting prospect Charles McAdoo to the big league roster. To make the move work, Lazaro Estrada has been moved to the 60-day IL, clearing out a 40-man roster spot.
McAdoo has impressed since joining the Blue Jays’ organization at the 2024 MLB trade deadline in exchange for Isiah Kiner-Falefa. After spending the 2025 season in Double-A with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats – a year in which McAdoo slammed 16 home runs – the 24-year-old earned a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo to begin 2026.
In 50 games with the Bisons this season, McAdoo is batting .250 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs, while also reaching base at a .357 clip. McAdoo sits first on the Bisons in home runs and second on the club in RBIs, becoming one of the driving forces in the club’s lineup.
The Blue Jays’ 26th ranked prospect has spent most of his minor league career at third base, but recently with the Bisons, McAdoo has been getting reps in at second base as the Blue Jays look to expand his versatility.
Sosa heads to the IL after being hit with a pitch on the wrist during Tuesday night’s win by Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. Sosa remained in the game but was clearly bothered, and spent a few minutes with athletic trainer Jose Ministral and manager John Schneider.
After being acquired from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations on April 13, Sosa has struggled for much of his Blue Jays’ tenure. In 28 games with the Blue Jays, Sosa is batting .188 with one home run and six RBIs, and has only contributed a .205 on-base percentage due to his one walk on the year.
For the season, between both the White Sox and Blue Jays, Sosa holds a .195 average, going 22-for-113 with one home run, nine RBIs and seven doubles. The 26-year-old’s IL stint is retroactive to May 27, so the infielder will be eligible to return on June 6 at the earliest.
Sosa has been operating as the Blue Jays’ backup first baseman behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but in recent days Brandon Valenzuela has been reported to be taking ground balls and getting reps at the spot. The addition of McAdoo will also allow Ernie Clement to cover first base in the case Guerrero needs an off-day.
Although not listed in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup on Thursday, whenever McAdoo enters a game, it will represent the MLB debut for the young infielder.
