Just another day, another roster move needed by the Toronto Blue Jays.
On Saturday, before game two of their three-game set against the Kansas City Royals, the Blue Jays placed Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Taillon was removed from Friday night’s 9-2 victory over the Royals after throwing two innings. The right-hander threw 29 pitches (18 strikes) before departing with a pitching line of 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.
The 34-year-old was making his first start since being placed on the injured list on August 11 due to right forearm tendinitis. Since being acquired by the Blue Jays on August 2 from the Chicago Cubs, Taillon has made three starts and posted a 3.60 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Across 10 innings, Taillon has struck out eight batters and held opponents to a .231 average.
Taillon is currently in the final season of a four-year, $68-million contract he signed with the Cubs on December 19, 2022, and will be a free agent upon completion of the 2026 season. Through 18 starts between both the Cubs and Blue Jays this season, Taillon is 2-6 with a 5.65 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled Ricky Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo and he will be active for tonight’s contest.
Tiedemann has pitched in two games with the Blue Jays this season and posted a 3.38 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The 24-year-old has struck out two batters across 2.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .222 average during that span.
After missing all of 2025 and much of the 2026 season due to various injuries, Tiedemann has returned to full health and is flashing some of the promise he displayed as he worked his way through the minor-league ranks.
Through seven games with the Bisons this season, Tiedemann has pitched to a 4.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The left-hander has struck out 10 batters across eight innings and allowed opponents to hit .276 during that span.
