Jake Bloss has returned to the mound.
On Tuesday night, Bloss made his first appearance in the Arizona Fall League, and the right-hander impressed.
Pitching for the Mesa Solar Sox, Bloss turned in a pitching line of 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, and threw 24 pitches (15 strikes in the outing). Bloss averaged 94.6 MPH with his four-seam fastball and topped out at 95.6 MPH, which is right around where the 25-year-old was in Triple-A before suffering a season-ending teres major injury in his right shoulder.
The 2026 campaign was a frustrating one for Bloss, as he opened the year recovering from Tommy John surgery before suffering his latest ailment. Bloss made his first appearance since May 3, 2025, on May 12 in Rookie Ball, and after two outings, he was transferred to Single-A Dunedin.
After three outings in Dunedin, Bloss made one appearance in Double-A with New Hampshire before being promoted to Triple-A Buffalo. In five starts with the Bisons, Bloss went 0-3 with an 8.69 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. Bloss struck out 10 batters over 19.2 innings pitched and was hit at a .333 clip.
Still listed as the Toronto Blue Jays’ No. 11-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, a healthy showing in the AFL should set Bloss up for a chance to compete for a role in Toronto’s rotation during spring training next year.
Before being acquired on July 29, 2024, from the Houston Astros, Bloss had made three career MLB starts. During that span, Bloss went 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. The former 2023 third-round draft pick flashed strikeout potential with 11 across his 11.2 frames.
Other Blue Jays prospect news
Also appearing for the Solar Sox, outfielder Jake Cook batted leadoff and went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Cook ripped three singles and is looking to build on a strong first season at the professional level.
After being selected in the third-round of the 2025 MLB Draft, Cook got into 72 games in Single-A with Dunedin during the 2026 campaign. The 23-year-old batted .250 with five home runs and 40 RBIs, while reaching base at a .367 clip and turning in 21 steals in 25 attempts.
Left-hander Brandon Barriera pitched two innings for the Solar Sox as he looks to solidify himself in the Blue Jays organization. Barriera turned in a pitching line of 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, and threw 27 pitches (17 strikes).
After missing much of the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Barriera pitched in 12 games with Dunedin and went 0-3 with a 4.22 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. The 22-year-old struck out 33 batters over 32 innings, and after tossing 13.2 scoreless frames in August, Barriera was promoted to High-A Vancouver on August 23.
Upon joining the Canadians, Barriera worked in two games, both of which came in relief, and he turned in a 12.46 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. Barriera struck out three over 4.1 innings and will try to use the AFL to secure his spot on the 40-man roster this winter.
