Jesús Sánchez’s return to Toronto looms following second rehab game with Buffalo

Jesús Sánchez is likely headed to Toronto. 
On Thursday, Sánchez appeared in what is likely to be his fifth and final rehab game as he works his way back from a right ankle sprain that he suffered June 26 during a 5-4 loss against the Texas Rangers. 
For the second straight night, Sánchez started in left field for the Buffalo Bisons, and after playing seven innings on Wednesday, he played three defensive frames and took two at-bats. 
Facing Lehigh Valley IronPigs right-hander Chuck King, Sánchez bounced into a double play in his first plate appearance. After falling behind 0-1 in the count, Sánchez rolled over an 85.5 MPH changeup from King for a 4-6-3 double play.
Squaring off with King once again in the top of the third inning, the two engaged in a seven-pitch battle that Sánchez eventually won, driving a 3-2 slider for a two-out double. The ball left Sánchez’s bat at 101.9 MPH and was the 28-year-old’s first extra-base hit of his rehab stint. 
Placed on the injured list on June 27, Sánchez has seen his rehab make stops in the FCL, Single-A, and Triple-A. Over his three stops, Sánchez has gone 4-for-12 with one RBI and has reached at a .438 clip. 
Acquired from the Houston Astros in exchange for Joey Loperfido, Sánchez has played 73 games with the Toronto Blue Jays this season and is batting .274 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs. With only 10 walks on the season, Sánchez boasts a .316 OBP. 
Sánchez is under contract this season at $6.8 million and is set to head to arbitration this off-season. With the Blue Jays sitting at 50-59 and holding an excess of outfielders, Sánchez could be on the move if a team feels his bat could slot into their lineup and provide a spark.
