The final arbitration-eligible Blue Jay has settled. The Jays and their star closer agreed upon a one-year deal worth $9.6 million ahead of arbitration.
Giles ended up earning well above the $8.4 million he was projected to be awarded in arbitration by MLB Trade Rumours. He was one of baseball’s best relievers last season, posting a 1.87 ERA while striking out a whopping 14.1 batters-per-nine innings and recording 23 saves. This is Giles’ final year of control before he can hit the free-agent market.
