There are still plenty of former Toronto Blue Jays available in free agency who played a big league game in 2025.
With Spring Training just around the corner, there are 18 former Blue Jays still on the market after playing a game in the big leagues last season. A handful of former Blue Jays were a part of the American League pennant team in 2025, while a handful of players only had a cup of tea with the team.
Six former Blue Jay free agents played for the team in 2025. The most notable of the bunch is Chris Bassitt, who had a 3.96 ERA and 4.01 FIP in 170.1 innings pitched last season, but found a niche in a high-leverage role during the Jays’ postseason run. Max Scherzer also had a strong postseason, as it’s been reported recently that he’s content with waiting for the right team.
The other two free agents that stepped on the mound for the Jays in 2025 are Chad Green and Nick Sandlin. Green threw just 43.2 innings in 2025, giving up 14 home runs, the third-most for any reliever in baseball (and one behind Jeff Hoffman). Sandlin, acquired alongside Andrés Giménez, spent a large portion of the 2025 season injured and was outrighted after the end of the season, electing free agency.
As for the two position players that played for the Jays in 2025, Isiah Kiner-Falefa was claimed off waivers in September and didn’t hit well in the regular season or the postseason. Ty France was acquired before the 2025 trade deadline and was fine after the trade, hitting a home run in 103 plate appearances for a 92 wRC+. He was the lone Blue Jay to win a Gold Glove.
Two free agents played with the Jays in 2024: Justin Turner and Cavan Biggio. Last season, Turner slashed .219/.288/.314 with three home runs in 191 plate appearances with the Chicago Cubs. He was traded before the 2024 trade deadline for RJ Schreck, a pretty darn good trade. So was the Biggio trade. The long-time Blue Jay was designated for assignment in the summer of 2024, with the Jays being able to trade the super utility player for Braydon Fisher.
There are a handful of other notable free agents from yesteryear. Both Randal Grichuk and Marcus Stroman made a significant impact on the Blue Jays back in the day.  Stroman was an important pitcher for the Jays in the 2010s, with the right-handed pitcher having an incredible 2015 one he returned late in the season from a knee injury. After a good start to his 2019 season, Stroman was traded to the New York Mets for Simeon Woods Richardson and Anthony Kay, with Woods Richardson eventually being traded for José Berríos.
Grichuk hit a career-best 31 home runs in 2019, and had a strong start to his 2021 season to keep the Jays’ playoff hopes alive as they dealt with injuries. Grichuk was eventually traded to the Colorado Rockies for Raimel Tapia and prospect Adrian Pinto.
Another notable trade saw the Jays send Rowdy Tellez to the Milwaukee Brewers for Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis. That move helped stabilize the Jays’ bullpen in 2021 as Richards had a good end to that year, while Francis had a fantastic end to the 2024 season. Tellez had a solid 2025 season, slashing .228/.276/.443 with 17 home runs in 312 plate appearances with the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.
Other free agents who played for the Blue Jays at one point in their career and also played a game in 2025 are Reese McGuire, Luke Maile, Gio Urshela, Jon Berti, Anthony DeSclafani, Derek Law, Liam Hendriks, and Kendall Graveman.
