It’s been a hot minute, but the Minor League Report is back.
Saturday wasn’t a great day for the Blue Jays organization. On top of an embarrassing 12-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, only two of their six affiliates won.
Let’s look at all of that in the newest edition of the Minor League Report!

Buffalo’s awful second-half continued

The Buffalo Bisons have had a rough second-half, as they fell 7-2 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to move their second-half record to 4-13, worst in the International League.
Alan Roden was the team’s player of the game, as he had three hits including two doubles. He’s struggled to adjust to Triple-A, but this is a good sign. Addison Barger also hit a double and had a multi-hit game, while Damiano Palmegiani, Will Robertson, and Rafael Lantigua each had a single. Riley Tirotta walked three times.
James Kaprielian had the start, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 9. Luis Quiñones was the first out of the bullpen, giving up two earned runs in two innings pitched. Erik Swanson gave up an earned run in his inning of work, but struck out two, while Mason Fluharty pitched a clean inning with a strikeout.

New Hampshire shutout

New Hampshire’s second-half hasn’t been any better, as the Fisher Cats fell 4-0 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to move to a 3-12 second-half record. They are in the midst of a five-game losing streak, and are 1-9 in their last 10.
Trenton Wallace had the start, finishing with a line of 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K with a home run given up to bring his season ERA to 2.76. Anders Tolhurst was the first out of the bullpen, striking out three in two innings and a third. Dahian Santos made his second appearance in Double-A, giving up two runs, both unearned, while walking and striking out three in two innings of work. Braydon Fisher struck out a batter in a clean inning.
The Fisher Cats had just three hits, all singles. Josh Kasvich had a hit and walked, as did Alex De Jesus. The other hit came from Cade Doughty, while Glenn Santiago walked. Not great.

Vancouver won a close game

The two upper-minor league teams have struggled, but the Vancouver Canadians are on a roll. On Saturday, they defeated the Eugene Emeralds 3-2 to bring their second-half record to 15-5, tied for the lead in the Northwest League.
Rafael Sánchez made the start, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER (2 R), 2 BB, 9 K to bring his season ERA to 4.18. Since June 9, the 24-year-old has a 32.6 K% as a starter. Chay Yeager was the first out of the bullpen, walking and striking out a batter in his inning of work. Grayson Thurman struck out three in two innings of work, while Johnathan Lavallee struck out the side in a clean inning.
Robert Brooks hit his third home run as a Canadian, driving in all three runs the Canadians scored while also hitting a single. Peyton Williams hit two doubles, while Marcos De La Rosa hit his fourth double of the year. Je’Von Ward and Jommer Hernandez each had a single, while Estiven Machado had two singles.

Dunedin one-hit

On Saturday, the Dunedin Blue Jays fell 10-0 to the Tampa Tarpons to bring their second-half record to 11-8, a game and a half behind the leaders of the Florida State League West.
Braden Barry had the D-Jays only hit, while the team struck out an incredible 16 times. Joey Votto accounted for four of those strikeouts, while 2023 first-round pick Arjun Nimmala had three strikeouts.
Grant Rogers made the start for the D-Jays, finishing with a line of 4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 6 K with two home runs given up to bring his season ERA to 4.48. J.J. Sanchez pitched the only scoreless outing, while Keiner Leon gave up four earned runs in an inning. To make matters worse, Felipe Bello gave up two earned runs in two innings of work.

FCL Jays moved their record to 11-38

The Florida Complex League Blue Jays have had a rough season, but they defeated the FCL Tigers 6-1 on Saturday to move to 11-38.
Enmanuel Bonilla hit his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot that scored the game-winning run. Luis Meza had a two-hit performance, while Luis De Los Santos and Carlos Vasquez each hit a double. The other player with a hit was Adrian Meza, while Faruk De La Cruz and Sam Shaw each walked twice.
Eminen Flores made the start, finishing with a line of 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K with a home run given up to bring his season ERA to 3.63. Franly Urena was the first out of the bullpen, striking out three in two innings of work. Lluveres Severino struck out a batter in a scoreless inning.

DSL Jays have lost eight in a row

After a terrific start to their season, the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays have now lost eight straight thanks to a 3-2 defeat to the DSL Angels.
Although they lost, the DSL Jays had eight hits, all singles. Randy Soto and Jarold Montealto each had two hits, while Yorman Licourt, Franklin Rojas, David Beckles, and Dariel Ramon had one single. Rafael Flores walked twice as well.
Angel Rivero made the start, finishing with a line of 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER (3 R), 1 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 7.80. Danny Martinez walked a batter in his third of an inning, Victor Espiritu pitched two scoreless innings, while Ramon Suarez struck out a batter in his clean inning.
