We’re in the dog days of August and the Blue Jays organization only has one team fighting for a postseason spot.
Thursday saw all five teams in action, with only two teams picking up the win, while two teams suffered a blowout loss.
Let’s dig into all of that in the latest Minor League Report!
Buffalo have lost four straight
The Buffalo Bisons have had a rough second-half after losing many of their starters to the big league team. With an 8-2 loss against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Bisons have a 17-25 record in the second-half, the second-worst record in the International League.
In total, the bats had seven hits, with Josh Kasevich and Rafael Lantigua each hit a double. The latter had a two-hit performance, while Luis De Los Santos, Joey Votto, Will Robertson, and Phil Clarke each had a single. Clarke and De Los Santos walked twice as well.
Trenton Wallace made his third start in Triple-A, finishing with a line of 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 6 BB, 3 K to bring his Triple-A ERA to 6. Paxton Schultz struck out three batters in an inning and a third and Brandon Eisert struck out a batter in a clean inning of work. Jimmy Burnette gave up five earned runs in two thirds of an inning, leaving Braydon Fisher to get the final out for the Bisons.
New Hampshire ended their losing streak
Coming into Thursday’s game, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats were on a three-game losing streak like the Bisons. However, they defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 6-4, bringing their second-half record to 14-25, the worst in the Eastern League.
Charles McAdoo’s had a two-game home run streak heading into the game, which ended. However, he reached base with a single twice, while also walking twice. RJ Schreck also had a two-hit performance, hitting his second home run in the Blue Jays organization. Other players with a hit were Dasan Brown, Alex De Jesus, Rainer Nuñez, and Yohendrick Piñango.

Michael Dominguez started the game for the Fisher Cats, pitching three scoreless innings with two hits and a walk allowed. Abdiel Mendoza also pitched three innings, allowing three hits and a strikeout in three scoreless innings.
Nick Fraze had a rough game, giving up four earned runs in an inning and two thirds, while walking two and striking out two. Johnathan Lavallee threw an immaculate inning for the save, pitching an inning and a third.

Vancouver shutout
Spokane has been Vancouver’s kryptonite all season long, and once again, Vancouver lost, this time 13-0.
Vancouver had six hits on the day, as Jay Harry had the only extra-base hit, his second double with the Canadians. He had a multi-hit game, as did Je’Von Ward, while Jacob Sharp and Marcos De La Rosa each had a single. Harry, Sharp, and Brennan Orf walked once.
Pitching wasn’t great for the Canadians. Connor O’Halloran started the game, giving up seven earned runs in four innings of work. Alex Amalfi gave up an earned run and struck out two in two innings of work, while Geison Urbaez gave up three earned runs in an inning of work. Aaron Munson struck out two, but gave up two earned runs in an inning of work.
Dunedin pick up late win
The Dunedin Blue Jays won 6-5 on Thursday against the Bradenton Marauders, giving them three straight victories over the Pittsburgh Pirates’ affiliate. Still, they are seven games back of the Florida State League leader.
Sean Keys hit his first career professional home run and also had a multi-hit game. Jaden Rudd and Arjun Nimmala hit a double, while Nick Mitchell, Yhoangel Aponte, and Aaron Parker hit a single. The latter walked three times.
The Key to victory 🔑 After his first professional home run put Dunedin ahead in the 8th, Sean Keys delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 9th.
Daniel Guerra made his third start in the Florida State League, finishing with a line of 6 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 5.65. J.J. Sanchez was the other pitcher the D-Jays used, and he pitched three innings with an earned run and six strikeouts.
DSL Jays’ comeback fell short
The Dominican Summer League Jays managed to score a run in the top of the ninth, but ultimately fell 8-7 to the DSL Giants Black, bringing their season record to 28-23.
There were no home runs hit by the DSL Jays, but all but one player had at least one hit. David Beckles hit his fourth double of the year, while Juarlin Soto and Rafael Flores each had a double and a single. Pascual Archila, Angel Guzmán, Aldo Gaxiola, and Franklin Rojas each had two-hit performances, while Andres Arias hit a single. The only player without a hit was Randy Soto.
Pedro Tucent started the game, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 7 ER (8 R), 3 BB, 4 K to bring his season ERA to 5.36. Danny Martinez struck out three in his two innings of work, while Johandi Medina pitched a clean inning with a strikeout.
