The Northwest League Championship Series is now a best of three.
On Wednesday, the Vancouver Canadians played their final home game of 2024, as the Northwest League Championship Series shifts to Spokane for the remainder of the series. Moreover, the two upper-minor affiliates were in action.
Let’s dig into all of that in the latest Minor League Report!
Vancouver ties the five-game series at one
The Vancouver Canadians’ 4-3 win on Wednesday is a perfect example of getting knocked down, but getting up again.
In the top of the first inning, Spokane took a 1-0 lead thanks to Kyle Karros’ home run. The Canadians had a chance to tie it in their half of the first as they had runners on second and third with no outs, but were unable to score.
Jay Harry walked to lead off the bottom of the second, stealing second base to put himself in scoring position. Another player the Jays acquired at the deadline, Jacob Sharp, drove Harry in with a single.
Spokane took another one-run lead in the top of the sixth after a lead-off single and Juaron Watts-Brown wild pitch. The Canadians once again had an answer though, as Brennan Orf singled in the bottom of the sixth and scored two runs. Cutter Coffey’s single in the bottom of the seventh added a much-needed insurance run, as Spokane scored their third and final run in the top of the eighth, giving up a 4-3 score.
Adrian Pinto continued to be one of the hottest hitters in the Jays organization over the last two months, as he hit a double and two singles. Jay Harry and Cutter Coffey each hit two singles in this game, while Peyton Williams, Brennan Orf, and Jacob Sharp each hit a single.
Juaron Watts-Brown had a terrific game when it mattered most, finishing with a line of 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K. The 10 strikeouts are a professional career-high for the Jays’ third-round pick in 2023. J.J. Sanchez pitched a clean inning, while Geison Urbaez allowed an earned run in an inning and a third. Bo Bonds struck out a batter in his inning pitched for the save.
How does 10 strikeouts in Game 2 of the Northwest League Finals sound? 🗣️ @BlueJays 2023 third-rounder Juaron Watts-Brown sets a career high in K's when it counts most for the @vancanadians:
Buffalo doubled up Gwinnett
The Buffalo Bisons defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 6-3 in 11 innings, bringing their season record to 27-37. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games.
Buffalo’s player of the game was Rafael Lantigua, who hit his 19th double of the season while also hitting two singles. Jonatan Clase also hit a double and a single, while Riley Tirotta had the team’s other double and Josh Kasevich had two singles. Alan Roden walked and hit a single in two plate appearances as a pinch hitter. Notably, Orelvis Martinez went 0-6, while the rehabbing Bo Bichette didn’t appear in this game.

Easton Lucas had the start for the Bisons, striking out three and walking a batter in four hitless innings. Paxton Schultz gave up an earned run, but struck out three in two innings of work. Emmanuel Ramírez pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout, while Mason Fluharty struck out a batter in a scoreless inning.

New Hampshire lost their sixth-straight game
The good news for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats is that there are only four more games remaining. On Wednesday, they fell 8-2 to the Somerset Patriots to bring their second-half record to 21-43, and they’re on a six-game losing streak. Oof.
Charles McAdoo had the team’s only extra-base hit, his 12th double of the season in Double-A and his sixth with the Fisher Cats. Ryan McCarty, Rainer Nuñez, Gabriel Martinez, and Josh Rivera each hit a single.
