So how about Mitch White, eh?
On Friday evening, the 28-year-old right-handed pitcher made his 11th start in Triple-A, finishing with a line of 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K. Over the past month, he has posted a 1.84 ERA and a 3.54 FIP, along with a 28.2 K% and a 9.4 BB% in 29.1 innings pitched.
Moreover, he has dropped his ERA to 5.75 and his FIP to 5.49 in 51.2 innings pitched with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, after having it hover above seven prior to being sent down.
Whiteâs tenure with the Jays wasnât great. Between 2022 and 2023, the 28-year-old pitched 55.2 innings, owning a 7.60 ERA and a much better 4.03 FIP. He didnât strike out many batters (16.7 K%), and he walked more batters than the average pitcher (8.7 BB%), but White did a great job limiting the hard contact.
The right-handed pitcher was supposed to serve as the long-man for the 2022 season, as the Blue Jays acquired him and prospect Alex De Jesus for two prospects, including highly-touted flamethrower Nick Frasso. It didnât quite go well, as White was designated for assignment in late July, while Frasso has already won the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week.
All hope is not lost though for White and the Blue Jays, as his good performance has likely earned him some consideration to be added to the 40-man roster, as heâll be Rule 5 eligible at the end of the season. Either way, White is set to get one more start next week. Pitching well in that game may force the Blue Jays to add him to the 40-man roster at the end of the season.
