Probable starting pitchers

Toronto: RHP Kevin Gausman (5-6, 4.60 ERA, 8.79 K/9)
Gausman is coming off his worst start of the year against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who shelled him for seven runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. He owns an ugly 7.65 ERA this month, but he did throw a gem against Cleveland earlier this year, holding the Guardians scoreless over six innings while recording nine strikeouts in early May. The veteran right-hander has also struggled mightily in day starts this year, posting a 1-4 record with a 6.12 ERA in eight contests.
Cleveland: RHP Tanner Bibee (4-7, 3.86 ERA, 7.61 K/9)
Bibee has sustained a heavy workload this month, throwing 404 pitches over four starts. He went eight innings the last time he took the hill against the Athletics, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out 10. The righty tossed five innings of three-run ball against the Blue Jays in Toronto back in early May. Bibee throws five different breaking pitches, and he ranks in the 81st percentile in breaking pitch run value, according to Baseball Savant.

Notable injuries

Pitchers Ryan Burr (shoulder), Bowden Francis (shoulder), and Yimi Garcia (shoulder) are all on the injured list for Toronto. Outfielders Daulton Varsho (hamstring) and Anthony Santander (shoulder) are also on the shelf.
Pitchers John Means (elbow), Shane Bieber (elbow), and Paul Sewald (shoulder) are on the IL for Cleveland.

Weather

Forecasts are calling for temperatures around 31 °C with a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Winds will blow in from centre field at 6 mph.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians betting trends

  • The under is 7-2 in Cleveland’s last nine games.
  • The Blue Jays have hit the team total over in 17 of their last 24 games.
  • The Guardians have covered the first five innings runline in nine of their last 12 games.
  • Toronto is the best team on the runline (46-33 ATS) in the majors this season.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians player prop trends

  • Gausman has walked two or more batters in four straight starts and is -140 to issue over 1.5 free passes. He’s also allowed three or more earned runs in four consecutive starts and seven of his last 10. He’s +100 to allow over 2.5 earned runs.
  • George Springer has hit safely in five straight games and 14 of his last 20. He’s -215 to get a hit.
  • Steven Kwan has scored at least one run in four straight games and five of his last six. He’s +105 to plate again on Thursday.

Blue Jays vs. Guardians best bet

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs: -111 for one unit (best odds @ Betway). Guerrero Jr., who launched his 11th homer of the season on Wednesday night, has exceeded this mark in both games of this series and seven of his last 10 overall. He also has excellent career numbers against Bibee, going 4-for-8 with a home run and a 1.431 OPS. Vladdy has beaten this number in 67% of his games this season, which means we’re getting great value on this betting line at -111 odds (52.6% implied odds). Hot and humid weather conditions should also favour the hitters on Thursday afternoon.
