The Toronto Blue Jays have found a new home for Will Robertson.
On Sunday, the Blue Jays designated Will Robertson for assignment to active Ryan Burr off the 60-day Injured List. Early Thursday morning, it was reported that Robertson had been traded to the Chicago White Sox, which was confirmed by the team later in the morning.
Robertson, 27, was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by the Blue Jays from the Creighton Bluejays. After a few seasons with mediocre results, Robertson had a great second half of the 2023 season with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
In 2024, Robertson spent his entire season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, slashing .226/.319/.429 with 19 home runs, second-most in the organization. He’s had a career-best year in 2025, slashing .292/.403/.578 with an organization-leading 14 home runs in 233 plate appearances.
Due to his good start, Robertson earned a call up to the Blue Jays, where he had a hit in his 12 plate appearances before being DFA’ed. On the White Sox, Robertson will get an opportunity he wouldn’t have otherwise got on the Blue Jays. Hopefully, he can make the most of it.

Blue Jays sign Buddy Kennedy to minor-league deal

On Wednesday, the Blue Jays signed Buddy Kennedy to a minor-league deal.
Kennedy, 26, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s played a handful of games in the big leagues over the past four seasons with the Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Phillies.
This season with the Phillies, he only had eight plate appearances before being designated for assignment. The most plate appearances Kennedy has had in the big leagues was in 2022 with the Diamondbacks, where he hit a home run and slashed .217/.287/.325 in 94 plate appearances.
For his career, the infielder is slashing .193/.287/.296 with two home runs in 157 plate appearances. Kennedy made his debut with the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday, finishing with a single in five plate appearances. He’ll more than likely be minor league depth for the Bisons.

Blue Jays reportedly are in on Edward Cabrera and Jacob deGrom

With the trade deadline less than three weeks away, the trade rumours are starting. According to Héctor Gómez, the Blue Jays have interest in Edward Cabrera and Jacob deGrom, but the latter only if he becomes available.
It seems like only a matter of time before Cabrera is traded, as his Miami Marlins are 42-50 and eight games back of the final Wild Card spot. This season, the left-handed pitcher has a 3.33 ERA and 3.88 FIP in 78.1 innings pitched, with a 24.5 K% and a 9.2 BB%. Unlike Sandy Alcántara, trading for Cabrera comes with term, as the 27-year-old has three more seasons of arbitration remaining.
deGrom, 37, would be a big get, similar to David Price in 2015. The left-handed pitcher is one of the greatest of this generation, authoring a 2.29 ERA and a 3.16 FIP in 106.1 innings pitched this season. However, there are a few roadblocks to this becoming a reality.
This is the first season since 2019 that deGrom has thrown 100 or more innings due to injuries. As good as he has been, there’s some concern there. deGrom also earns $37 million per season until the end of the 2027 season, which is a substantial amount to add to the Jays’ payroll. Not to mention, deGrom has a no-trade clause.
Lastly, the Texas Rangers are 45-48, just four games back of the final Wild Card spot. Just like last season, if the Rangers sell, it could be a case of trading expiring free agents rather than players under control.
