Things worth mentioning…

• Our dear friend Sammy G had trouble with the regression monster today. He followed up a seven scoreless outing against the powerhouse Yankees by getting touched up for five earned runs over three and a third. It’d be easy to blame BABIP, but he gave up a few rockets, coughing up three different leads in his short outing. It ended a string of quality starts from the Blue Jays rotation.
• Kendrys Morales went 2 for 4 with a double and a single today, which means he can hit more than just Orioles pitching. Best case scenario has him getting hot for a while and distracting us from the storm clouds swirling in the distance…or at least enough to not have the worst season in Blue Jays history from a hitter.
• The game was close until the seventh inning, when, in a one-run game with runners on the corners, John Axford threw away a comebacker to the mound and then couldn’t lay the tag down on the second runner coming home. What could have been two outs and an opportunity to get out of the jam turned into a three run inning. Of course, we know which hellhole this game was taking place in.
• The Rays, a shitty team in their own right, are very much not the Orioles. All the good will, if any, was immediately thrown out the window after that clusterfuck of a game. Right now, as we’re in the middle of June, you can’t help but hear the Jaws music getting louder and louder as we get closer to trade deadline season.
