Ricky Tiedemann tosses scoreless frame in first rehab outing with Buffalo

Ricky Tiedemann’s officially back in Buffalo.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Tiedemann has returned to Triple-A Buffalo after completing his rehab stint in Single-A with the Dunedin Blue Jays, and the left-hander wasted no time making an impact.
Tiedemann was called upon to work the top of the seventh during the Bisons’ 7-6 win against the Norfolk Tides. Tiedemann needed only 11 pitches (six strikes) to set the Tides down in order.
The lefty got José Barrero to pop out to first, then following a six-pitch walk to Ryan Noda, Tiedemann got Payton Eeles to line into an unassisted double play to first baseman Sean Keys. Tiedemann averaged 96.7 MPH with his fastball and hit 97.8 MPH, while mixing in five sweepers.
Tiedemann’s stint in Dunedin got off to a slow start. After two outings in the FCL, Tiedemann was scheduled to start on June 23, but ended up being scratched hours before first pitch. It was later revealed that Tiedemann required injections to alleviate neck and shoulder discomfort, which delayed his return until July 25.
Working out of the Dunedin bullpen, Tiedemann came out firing in his first rehab outing. The 23-year-old threw 18 pitches (11 strikes) and turned in a pitching line of 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Tiedemann averaged 96.4 MPH with his four-seam fastball and topped out at 97.7 MPH.
Working on three days rest, Tiedemann once again dazzled during his second rehab outing. This time, Tiedemann needed only seven pitches, all of which were strikes, to work a clean inning and record one strikeout. In his second game with Dunedin, Tiedemann averaged 96.5 MPH and topped out at 97.4 MPH on his final pitch of the night.
Now pitching for the Bisons, Tiedemann has returned to game action for the first time at the Triple-A level since July 10, 2024. In four career starts with the Bisons, Tiedemann is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP. Tiedemann struck out 11 over his nine innings pitched, but struggled with control, highlighted by 12 walks.
While the former third-round draft pick’s days of starting may be over, the Toronto Blue Jays’ No. 10-ranked prospect still possesses the opportunity to impact the game in a relief role due to his high-octane fastball.
If Tiedemann can stay healthy in Buffalo and maintain success, coupled with the Blue Jays’ poor record, he could be in line for his MLB debut down the stretch in September.
