Acquired: Trade with the Seattle Mariners

The Mariners drafted Schreck in the ninth round of the 2023 draft and signed him to an under-slot deal worth $100,000 less than slot value. Following the draft, the 6’1”, 205 lbs outfielder slashed .258/.336/.392 with two home runs in 110 plate appearances for a 100 wRC+.
Schreck began his 2024 season, his first full professional season, with the Mariners’ High-A team, slashing .261/.401/.464 with 12 home runs in 344 plate appearances for a 140 wRC+. Before the trade, Schreck had 34 plate appearances with the Mariners’ Double-A team.
That trade came before the 2024 trade deadline, as the <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/toronto-blue-jays-trade-justin-turner-to-mariners-for-outfield-prospect-rj-schreck">Blue Jays sent veteran first baseman Justin Turner to the Mariners for the outfield prospect</a>. Post trade, Schreck caught fire and slashed .255/.377/.521 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances for a 153 wRC+, hitting 17 home runs in 492 plate appearances in 2024.
Schreck continued his torrid pace in Double-A to begin the 2025 season, slashing .266/.396/.518 with nine home runs in 169 plate appearances with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, giving him a 165 wRC+. The 25-year-old’s pace didn’t slow down upon his promotion to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, as he’s slashing .255/.383/.476 with eight home runs in 177 plate appearances for a 131 wRC+.
In their mid-season update, <a href="https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/bluejays/rj-schreck-702302">MLB Pipeline</a><a href="https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/bluejays/rj-schreck-702302"> ranked Schreck as their 10th-best Blue Jays prospect</a>. Despite hitting 17 home runs for the second consecutive season, the second-most in the organization this year, Schreck’s power is only graded at 40, or below-average. He’s a hit-over-power type of prospect with a good approach at the plate, while being an average defender in the outfield. They noted the power tool needed to grow, and it&#8217;s safe to say it has.
Due to missing time due to injury, Schreck is a good bet to attend the <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/looking-which-prospects-represent-blue-jays-afl">Arizona Fall League when that begins in November</a>.
