Somebody once told me today’s prospect had a terrific start to his Toronto Blue Jays career.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Pre-Season Prospect Countdown, this time looking at the top 40 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publications’ scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 19th-best Blue Jays prospect, RJ Schreck.

Getting to know RJ Schreck…

Position: Outfield
Bats: Left
Born: July 12, 2000
Acquired: Trade with Mariners
Previous ranking: Not ranked
The Seattle Mariners selected RJ Schreck in the ninth round of the 2023 draft and signed him to a bonus of $75,000. After eight plate appearances with a home run with the Mariners’ Arizona Fall League team, Schreck earned a promotion to Single-A where he slashed .267/.343/.378 with one home run in 102 plate appearances.
Schreck had a much better start to his 2024 season, starting the season with the Mariners High-A team, Schreck slashed .261/.401/.464 with 12 home runs in 344 plate appearances with a higher BB% (16.6%) than K% (13.7%). In a short stint with Seattle’s Double-A team, Schreck slashed .143/.294/.250 with no home runs in 34 plate appearances.
Before the 2024 trade deadline, the Mariners traded Schreck to the Blue Jays in exchange for designated hitter Justin Turner. The 24-year-old outfielder lit it up for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, slashing .255/.377/.521 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances, with a 14 BB% and a 23.7 K%.
Schreck ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 27th-best Blue Jays prospect in their mid-season update. His scouting report notes that he has a great approach at the plate with a good eye. Schreck also has some pop but does a good job putting the ball in play, with slow foot speed. Defensively, he’ll play an outfield corner where he’s solid. They give him the ceiling of a fourth or fifth outfielder.
