Blue Jays Nation’s 2025 Pre-Season Prospect Countdown – No. 29: Eddinson Paulino

After being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, Eddinson Paulino didn’t play much due to an injury.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Pre-Season Prospect Countdown, this time looking at the top 40 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publications’ scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 29th-best prospect, Eddinson Paulino!
Getting to know Eddinson Paulino…
Position: Infield

Acquired: Trade with Red Sox
Previous ranking: 27th
Paulino signed with the Boston Red Sox during the 2018 International Free Agency period and made his professional debut in 2019 where he slashed .287/.394/.380 with no home runs in 128 plate appearances. Paulino had a similar 2021 season, slashing .336/.436/.549 with no home runs in 133 plate appearances.
However, the power came on for Paulino in 2022, as he slashed .266/.359/.469 with 13 home runs in 539 plate appearances with Boston’s Single-A team for a 127 wRC+. As he had done throughout his career to this point, he had a good BB% of 11.9% and a solid strikeout rate of 19.5%.
The power surge continued in 2023 with the Red Sox’s High-A team, as Paulino slashed .257/.338/.420 with 12 home runs in 500 plate appearances for a 108 wRC+, as his K% jumped to 22.6% while his BB% sat at 10%.
Paulino started the 2024 season with their Double-A team, slashing .263/.349/.391 with three home runs in 278 plate appearances for a 114 wRC+. Before the trade deadline, he was traded along with Cutter Coffey and Gilberto Batista to the Blue Jays for Danny Jansen.
He spent most of his tenure with the Blue Jays on the injured list, appearing in 36 plate appearances between Single-A and Double-A. Paulino represented the Blue Jays in the Arizona Fall League, where he slashed .226/.293/.302 with one home run in 58 plate appearances.
Paulino ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 17th-best Blue Jays prospect during the mid-season update. He’s a player that can hit for average with a good left-handed swing and a good eye at the plate. However, he stands at just 5’10”, 155 lb so he won’t be hitting a ton of home runs unless he adds to his frame. Paulino also played second base, shortstop, third base, and a bit of centre field last season, with second base being his best position. He has utility player written all over him.
