Aaron Sanchez left the game after three innings (and 64 pitches) with what the #BlueJays are calling a right middle finger nail avulsion. The Internet tells me nail avulsion is when part, or all, of the nail is torn away or removed from the nail bed.

After 64 pitches through three innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon, starter Aaron Sanchez left the game due to a right middle finger nail avulsion.
Just more tough news for the 26-year-old after battling through various injuries his whole career. In 2018, he pitched a total of 105 innings — the second-most in his career — so far in 2019, with 60 innings pitched he would have been on-track to surpass that total.
Before Monday’s game, Sanchez had a 3.79 ERA and a 1.456 WHIP this season.
Already lacking starting pitching, the Blue Jays will most likely rely on more “bullpen days” as manager Charlie Montoyo puts it. Even if Sanchez isn’t out for a very long time, the Jays risking him with every start and running out of their slowly-decaying bullpen, is unfortunate to say the least.
If Sanchez heads to the IL, a resulting transaction bringing up a possible starter will happen.
