After 64 pitches through three innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon, starter Aaron Sanchez left the game due to a right middle finger nail avulsion.

Just more tough news for the 26-year-old after battling through various injuries his whole career. In 2018, he pitched a total of 105 innings &#8212; the second-most in his career &#8212; so far in 2019, with 60 innings pitched he would have been on-track to surpass that total.
Before Monday&#8217;s game, Sanchez had a 3.79 ERA and a 1.456 WHIP this season.
Already lacking starting pitching, the Blue Jays will most likely rely on more &#8220;bullpen days&#8221; as manager Charlie Montoyo puts it. Even if Sanchez isn&#8217;t out for a very long time, the Jays risking him with every start and running out of their slowly-decaying bullpen, is unfortunate to say the least.
If Sanchez heads to the IL, a resulting transaction bringing up a possible starter will happen.
