The Blue Jays entered the trade deadline with the exact approach we imagined. With the club falling far from the thought of contention, Toronto decided to be a seller in this market. Some key names were dealt in the trades with a variety of returns.
The Blue Jays parted ways with Danny Jansen, Nate Pearson, Yusei Kikuchi, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Kevin Kiermaier, Justin Turner, and Trevor Richards. Who did Toronto receive in return?

LHP Ryan Yarbrough (Dodgers)

The Blue Jays added a left-handed veteran arm in Ryan Yarbrough. The eight-year veteran has thrown 67 and 1/3 innings this season for the Dodgers, holding a 3.74 ERA. he’s 4-2 in 32 games pitched. Yarbrough is a free agent in 2025.

SS Jay Harry (Twins)

The Minnesota Twins drafted Harry in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB draft out of Pennsylvania State University. The infielder is a primary shortstop who played three seasons in the Big Ten conference. He started his career between low-A and rookie ball which resulted in a .339 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage. Harry is stealthy in the hole up the middle and swings a contact bat with the ability to reach base.

2B Charles McAdoo (Pirates)

Infielder Charles McAdoo is a primary second baseman doing all from the right side. He was drafted in the 13th round by the Pirates in 2023 from San Jose State University. Showing power and a hard-contact swing, McAdoo has recorded 14 home runs this season within two levels so far.

RHP Jake Bloss (Astros)

A Georgetown University right-hander was selected in the third round of the 2023 MLB draft by the Houston Astros. Bloss now sits third on the Jays prospect rankings. He throws a four-pitch mix led by a four-seamer topping 97 mph with life. His offspeed is in development, as his first season in professional baseball gave him reps to do so. Bloss can be a starter with years ahead of him to grow.

2B Will Wagner (Astros)

Infielder Will Wagner now ranks 22nd of the top 30 Blue Jays prospects. He was drafted in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB draft by the Astros. Wagner bats left, throws right, and brings basic but professional-type tools that are collectively competitive. His talents went from the Big Sun Conference to the Atlantic Sun Conference to a quick elevation to triple-A ball. So far in 2024, he’s slashing a .307/.424/.429. Wagner is expected to get promoted to the show soon.

OF Joey Loperfido (Astros)

A seventh-rounder from Duke University, Loperfido was selected by the Houston Astros in 2021. So far this season he slashed a .234/.295/.351 between the Astros and Jays organization. He’s got a left-handed bat with plenty of pop.

OF RJ Schreck (Mariners)

Schreck was selected in the ninth round of the 2023 draft by the Seattle Mariners. The left-handed hitting outfielder originally started his college career at Duke University where he spent four years. Eligibility gave him one more year which he finished off at Vanderbilt University. His college numbers translated to professional ball, with a good approach at the plate and discipline. He walks more than he strikes out and has a .392 batting average. Schreck has scored 52 times his season while driving in 45 runs. His on-base presence and up-the-middle contact makes him reliable.

INF Cutter Coffey (Red Sox)

Slashing a .238/.321/.463 with 14 homers, Coffey brings the ability to hit and fill the offensive roles Toronto has been lacking. The Red Sox selected the right-handed infielder in the second round of the 2022 draft out of high school in California.

INF Eddinson Paulino (Red Sox)

He’s slashed a .263/.349/.391 in double-A this season with pop and contact capability. Now 22 years old, Paulino plays shortstop, third base, and second base.

RHP Gilberto Batista (Red Sox)

A four-pitch type righty maxes his fastball at 95 mph with a hook that’s his out-pitch. He’s worked 20 2/3 innings with a 3.92 ERA in 2024.

IF Josh Rivera (Cubs)

From Miami University, Rivera was selected in the 22nd round of the 2019 draft by San Diego. The pull-side hitter became more efficient with his bat in his last college season. He also brings speed to the basepaths and defensively.

OF Yohendrick Pinango (Cubs)

A 2018 international signee with a good bat, raw power, and good bat speed. He’s patient and smart at the dish. In 2024 he split the year between high-A and double A. In high-A, he slashed a .340/.451/.610 line.
