The Toronto Blue Jays’ season may be over on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean baseball is over for their prospects.
On October 7, the annual Arizona Fall League kicks off, with the Blue Jays’ prospects playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, alongside prospects from the organizations of the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Detroit Tigers.
Last season, the team the Blue Jays were on (Surprise Saguaros) won the title thanks to big performances from Damiano Palmegiani, Will Robertson, Ricky Tiedemann, and CJ Van Eyk.
This season, the Jays are sending five pitchers and three position players. The pitchers attending are Kendry Rojas, T.J. Brock, Lazaro Estrada, Ryan Jennings, and Johnathan Lavallee. As for the position players, the Jays are sending Adrian Pinto, Eddinson Paulino, and Peyton Williams.
All three position players missed a portion of the season this year. When healthy, Adrian Pinto slashed .330/.378/.573 with four home runs and 16 extra-base hits in 112 plate appearances for a 160 wRC+. Peyton Williams had a good season as well, slashing .289/.362/.476 with 11 home runs in 334 plate appearances in High-A for a 133 wRC+.
Eddinson Paulino was acquired prior to the 2024 trade deadline for Danny Jansen. The utility infielder only had 37 plate appearances between Single-A and Double-A, as he spent most of August on the injured list. With Boston’s Triple-A team, the 22-year-old slashed .263/.349/.391 with three home runs in 278 plate appearances.
Kendry Rojas is the most notable prospect the Jays are sending to the Arizona Fall League. In 2024, the left-handed pitcher had a 2.43 ERA and 3.02 FIP in 55.2 innings pitched, along with a 27 K% and a 5.3 BB%. However, he missed a significant portion of the season due to injury.
Kendry Rojas, the @BlueJays' No. 12 prospect, lowers his ERA to 2.43 with a strong start for @vancanadians: 6 IP 1 H 1 R 0 BB 6 K
As was the case for reliever T.J. Brock. Between the Florida Complex League, Single-A, and Double-A, he only pitched 11.1 innings with a 44.4 K% and a 0.79 ERA. Ryan Jennings pitched more often than Brock, posting a 1.93 ERA and a 3.34 FIP in 60.2 innings pitched, moving to the bullpen once he hit Double-A New Hampshire.
Johnathan Lavallee signed with the Blue Jays on a minor league deal before the start of the 2024 season. Between High-A and Double-A, the right-handed pitcher posted a 3.44 ERA and a 3.43 in 49.2 innings pitched, often pitching in high leverage.
Lazaro Estrada has been one of the most intriguing pitching prospects in the Jays organization for some time now. He finally got out of Single-A this season, posting a 3.29 ERA and a 3.31 FIP in 98.1 innings pitched, along with a 28 K% and an 8.2 BB%. Aside from two rehab starts in Dunedin, Estrada spent most of his season between High-A and Double-A.
