Remember when @emilien_pitre smoked three hits, including a 98 MPH fastball, off tonight’s @MLB All-Star Game starter? The same one who had a no-hitter through 7 last week? You’re going to love him @RaysBaseball fans! #RecruitandDevelop

The 2024 MLB draft was a success all around. Various clubs improved their farm systems and their future prospect pool. Some clubs struggled based on the positioning of their picks. This year, the draft for Canadian-born players had a huge turnout.
Players from north of the border heard their names in the selections, positioned in some very significant slots. Which names did we hear?

Nori is a 2024 high school graduate of Northville High School in Northville, Michigan. He was originally born in Toronto, Ontario. The outfielder is a Mississippi State commit. Nori is ranked 48th of MLB’s top draft prospects for 2024.
He does all from the left side and has a compact swing at the dish. His approach is contact, fastball middle-middle and will shorten up on a two-strike approach. He’s quick on the bad pads as well as the outfield, and his defence is outstanding.
2B Emilien Pitre, Round 2, Pick #58 – Tampa Bay Rays
The Kentucky second baseman ranks 173rd of the top MLB-ranked draft prospects. The former Junior National Team infielder showed out extremely well in this year’s NCAA regionals, putting up numbers on the stats charts and displaying projectable metrics.
C Nathan Flewelling, Round 3 Pick #94 – Tampa Bay Rays
Joining Pitre in Tampa Bay, Flewelling was called in the next round. He was ranked 236th by MLB and gave a great presentation of tools at the MLB draft combine. Flewelling was committed to attending Gonzaga.
RHP L.P. Langevin, Round 4 Pick #105 – Kansas City Royals
The Louisiana-Lafayette transfer drew the attention of scouts with exceptional metrics on his pitch options, especially his fastball. Although it was not a blow-away pitch, his spin rates and deviations were intriguing. His offspeed and breaking options were also of value. His college success as a primary reliever may transfer over to the minor leagues.
RHP Josiah Romeo, Round 6 Pick #166 – Oakland Athletics
The most anticipated Canadian high school arm took to round six to hear his name called. The Junior National Team member competed in the MLB draft league prior to attending the draft combine. The high schooler is committed to Florida State University.
RHP Sean Heppner, Round 12 Pick #355 – Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians add another Canadian talent to their organization, this time, on the bump. The right-hander was not ranked and played most of his career in Canada. He pitched three seasons for the University of British Columbia (NAIA) and summer stints in the West Coast League and Northwoods League. Three seasons in college gave him 184 and 2 / 3 innings of work with 236 strikeouts, 65 walks, and a 4.19 ERA.
C Connor Caskenette, Round 12 Pick #364 – Miami Marlins
One of two notable Purdue University Canadian catchers, Caskenette competed in the Big Ten conference and showed the ability to hit while excelling behind the dish. He recorded 13 dingers this season with 69 RBIs, 58 hits, and slashed a .309/.429/.575.
SS Jack Lines, Round 12 Pick #366 – Tampa Bay Rays
The middle infielder is a 2024 graduate with physical attributes and defensive tools. He’s a sub-seven 60-yard time with a strong swing and contact ability. He’s committed to attending Florida State University.
LHP Ryan Magdic, Round 14 Pick #406 – Oakland Athletics
Magdic is a hidden gem. He was not ranked and after various years of collegiate eligibility, he switched over to the mound. In 2024 his ability to pitch really showed with Missouri. His 96 mph sharp fastball from the southpaw complimented dependable off-speed options. Magdic is very projectable despite the lack of innings in his 2024 season. He will join Josiah Romeo in the class.
