There are three pitching prospects who could be added to the Toronto Blue Jays’ 40-man roster this off-season.
Daniel Guerra is one of three notable pitching prospects who are Rule 5 eligible, alongside Nolan Perry and Gage Stanifer. Of the three, Guerra ranks the lowest, coming in as our 15th-best Blue Jays’ prospect in the end of season countdown. If you missed who ranked 16th, you can read about Jake Casey here.
Let’s take a look at what Guerra did this season.

Daniel Guerra

Position: Starting Pitcher
Throws: Right
Born: March 13th, 2004
Acquired: 2022 International Free Agency
Previous ranking: Unranked
Guerra was signed to a bonus of $40,000 during the 2022 International Free Agency period. He finished the season with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays, posting a 0.84 ERA and 4.42 FIP in 21.1 innings of work, with shaky command.
The 2023 season was his first full season in the organization, and the 6’6” righty posted a 5.19 ERA and 3.81 FIP in 34.2 innings pitched with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays. Beginning the 2024 season with the FCL Jays, Guerra had a 6.42 ERA and 3.95 FIP in 40.2 innings of work.
Before the end of the 2024 season, Guerra was promoted to Single-A, where he posted a 4.28 ERA and 3.99 FIP in six starts, with a 25.2 K% and 12.6 BB%. Like the season before, Guerra repeated the level he finished at the season prior, owning a 3.40 ERA and 4.57 FIP in 82 innings of work, spending the entire season at the Single-A level.
Guerra wasn’t quite in “non-prospect” status, but he was nowhere near top prospect lists until his breakout season in 2026. Beginning the year with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, the 22-year-old posted a 3.20 ERA and 3.54 FIP in 59 innings of work over 14 starts. More importantly, his K% jumped to 31.3% during his tenure with the Canadians, though he still had a high 11.6 BB%.
Toward the end of the season, Guerra appeared in three games out of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ bullpen, then appeared in seven Triple-A Buffalo Bisons’ games in the same role. His numbers weren’t as strong, but it’s clear the Jays were prepping Guerra for a potential late season call-up.
That never happened, but as long as he’s in the the Blue Jays organization in 2027, there’s a good chance he’ll end up making his debut. Guerra’s breakout is thanks to a plus fastball that sits in the mid-90s and reaches a tick under 100 mph. He also features a good slider and below average splitter, with subpar command of the pitches.
There’s some relief risk, but even then, Guerra is an interesting prospect. In his seven outings with the Bisons, his fastball averaged 97 mph with a 34.40 whiff percentage. The slider is his put away pitch, sitting in the high-80s with a 43.80 percent whiff rate in a limited sample size with the Bisons.
Guerra is the type of arm that could get picked up in the Rule 5 Draft, as he throws hard and has the ability to come out of the bullpen. To protect him, the Jays will have to add him to the 40-man roster.
