July is a make or break month for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Everyone remembers what happened the last time they played the Seattle Mariners. In Game 7, George Springer hit a three run shot in the seventh inning, a go-ahead home run that stood as the Jays punched their ticket to the World Series.
But a big reason why the 2025 Blue Jays were able to achieve what they did was thanks to a visit to the Pacific Coast in May.
Throughout the season, we’ve looked at turning points of the 2025 season. One of those turning points came in early May. After winning the final game in their series against the Los Angeles Angels, the Blue Jays headed north and swept the Mariners in a three-game series.
That west coast road trip saw them reach .500, and they never fell more than two games below the mark for the remainder of the season. Eventually, the second turning point happened, as Bo Bichette hit a two-run home run against the Texas Rangers, which began a 13-3 stretch.
Once again, the Jays need a west coast road trip to turn the season around, but unlike last season, there isn’t much more room for error. While the 2025 Blue Jays eventually strung together wins, something the 2026 Blue Jays have yet to do.
The Blue Jays will be on the West Coast until the All-Star break. This weekend, they play a three-game series against the Mariners, then begin a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday. They’ll wrap up the trip against the San Diego Padres, a team they swept in May last season.
After going 3-7 on their recent home stand, this road trip will determine their season. The Jays need to find a way to go at least 6-3, a record that would put them in a much better position than their current 41-46 record heading into the trade deadline. Entering Friday’s series opener, the Jays are already 11.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays, and are three and a half games behind the final wild card spot. At some point, they have to win some games.
The west coast trip, especially the series in Seattle, helped turn the 2025 Blue Jays’ season around. Past the midway mark of the season, the 2026 Blue Jays need to get going on this road trip, because a losing record on this trip may well be the end of their World Series aspirations with the trade deadline rapidly approaching.
