Chad Dallas was one of many prospects to make his debut for the 2026 Toronto Blue Jays.
It was a long time coming for the right-handed pitcher. Originally drafted in 2021, Dallas broke out in 2023, but dealt with injuries in 2024, which forced him to miss all of the 2025 season. Finally, Dallas emerged as an option for the Blue Jays in 2026.

Dallas was selected in the fourth-round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Blue Jays. He didn’t make his professional debut until the following season, authoring a 4.60 ERA and 5.50 FIP in 88 innings of work, a subpar season to say the least.
However, the right-handed pitcher had a great start to his 2023 season at the High-A level. Over five starts, Dallas had a 2.03 ERA and 2.88 FIP in 26.2 innings of work, along with a 36.3 K% and 11.8 BB%. He didn’t pitch as well after his promotion to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, but still posted a solid 4.10 ERA with a 4.41 FIP in 96.2 innings of work.
Overall, Dallas finished the 2023 season with a 3.65 ERA and 4.08 FIP in 123.1 innings of work, owning a 27.9 K% and 9.5 BB%. He positioned himself to be a potential call-up in 2024, but that season was marred by injury, appearing in just 16 games and amassing just 66.2 innings of work. Toward the end of the 2024 season, Dallas underwent Tommy John surgery.
Because of Tommy John surgery, Dallas missed the entirety of the 2025 season. But he had a solid Spring Training upon his return in 2026, and has had a strong season in Triple-A. With the Buffalo Bisons, Dallas finished the year with a 3.15 ERA and 3.61 FIP in 71.1 innings of work, making 12 starts in 27 appearances. His command hovered around his career body of work, sitting at 9.1 percent, while he finished the year with a 23.7 K%.
In the big leagues, Dallas has appeared in six games, all in bulk relief, and carries a 5.02 ERA and 4.22 FIP in 14.1 innings of work. Dallas’ strikeout rate has climbed to 26.6 percent, but his BB% has elevated to 12.5% as well. The right-handed pitcher has mainly been used as an AAAA player in 2026, but could factor into the Blue Jays’ pitching plans in 2027.
Dallas has some strong underlying numbers in his limited big league appearances, according to his Baseball Savant page. If he were qualified, his 35.2 chase percentage would rank rather high, as would his 28.1 whiff percentage. Hitters have struggled to barrel the 26-year-old, as he has a 5.1 percent barrel % as well.
As for his stuff, Dallas has mainly thrown a cutter, curveball, and sweeper since joining the Blue Jays. His cutter is his most used pitch, sitting 93 mph and is an alternative to a fastball. That said, when he does throw a fastball (which accounts for about three percent of his pitches thrown), it sits about 94.5 mph.
Dallas’ best pitches are the two off-speed pitches, with both the curveball and slider grading out at 55 according to MLB Pipeline, who ranked him as their 22nd-best Blue Jays prospect in the mid-season update.
It’s unclear if Dallas will return to the rotation in his second year back from Tommy John surgery, but expect him to at the very worst, feature in a similar role that he has this season for the Blue Jays.
