The Toronto Blue Jays need to stop this skid at some point.
After a sweep of the Athletics to begin their season, the Blue Jays are 1-6 in their last seven, with two losses to the Colorado Rockies and a sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox. Their losing woes continued on Monday evening, as the Los Angeles Dodgers rolled into town a smoked them 14-2.
But with a new day comes the possibility of snapping that skid. Tuesday’s game, which is the 49th anniversary of their first ever game, will see Kevin Gausman start for the Blue Jays. It’ll be Gausman’s third start and he carries a 0.75 ERA into the game over his first 12 innings. He’s also struck out over half the batters he’s faced this season without giving up a walk.
In the World Series, Gausman made two starts and pitched well in both. In both games, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the Dodgers’ starter. Well, that’s the same case on Tuesday, as Yamamoto makes his first start in Toronto since getting a season-ending double play.
The Blue Jays have a new-look lineup with a righty on the mound. George Springer still leads off and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. still hits third. However, Daulton Varsho gets a look in the two-hole, while Jesús Sánchez bats cleanup for the first time in his Blue Jays career. Kazuma Okamoto hits fifth, followed by Ernie Clement. The Blue Jays’ bottom third of the lineup is comprised of Nathan Lukes, Andrés Giménez, and Brandon Valenzuela.
Let’s set up Tuesday’s game, which will hopefully snap a five-game losing streak.
