The Toronto Blue Jays strong play over the past couple of weeks has continued.

Monday’s trade deadline saw a few familiar faces find new homes, as the Jays sent Jeff Hoffman to the Minnesota Twins, Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs, and Daulton Varsho to the Houston Astros. Varsho is once again in the Astros’ lineup to face the Jays on Tuesday evening.

Despite the trades, the Jays have won seven of their last 11 games. If they manage to win Tuesday evening’s game, it’ll be the third consecutive series they’ve won after taking two of three against both the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals. The hope is slim, four games out of the final wild card with a bunch teams to jump, but this team is still playoff calibre.

Before the game, John Schneider announced that the Jays will turn to a six-man rotation for the time being. Trey Yesavage gets the start in the second game of the series against the Astros coming off a strong start last time out. Facing the Nationals, Yesavage pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up just one earned run, walking three, and striking out four.

Opposite to Yesavage is Hayden Wesneski, who is making his second start of the season. His last start, July 29th, saw him go five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs and striking out four. While this is just his second start in 2026, Wesneski has thrown 227.2 big league innings since 2022.

A righty, the Blue Jays have a handful of left-handed batters in the lineup. Nathan Lukes leads off, former Astro Jesús Sánchez bats sixth, and Andrés Giménez is batting sixth. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. moves up to the two-hole, followed by Kazuma Okamoto and George Springer.

Alejandro Kirk, who hit a home run on Monday evening, bats fifth. Ernie Clement bats seventh, and Myles Straw rounds out the lineup.
