The Toronto Blue Jays look to snap their series losing skid.
After dropping a series to the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, the Jays have put themselves in a position to win the series against the Colorado Rockies. On Monday, the Blue Jays thumped the bottom-dwelling team 15-1. All nine of the Blue Jays’ starters had at least one hit, with Daulton Varsho hitting his first home run since returning, and Bichette hitting two home runs. Ernie Clement had the best day at the plate, going 5-6, a home run shy of the cycle.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jays weren’t able to gain any ground on the Boston Red Sox, as their American League East rival defeated the Kansas City Royals 8-5 to stay three games behind the Blue Jays for the division lead. The Blue Jays have to win all three games in this series.
They’ll look to do just that on Tuesday, as José Berríos is set to make his 24th start of the season. It wasn’t a great start last time out, as the right-handed pitcher gave up five runs, two earned, in four and one-third innings of work. Since the start of July, Berríos has a 5.83 ERA and 5.53 FIP in 29.1 innings pitched – he needs to be better.
The Jays’ lineup is nearly the same as yesterday. With a righty on the mound for the Rockies, Nathan Lukes leads off. Bichette bats second, followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Addison Barger. Alejandro Kirk returns to the fifth spot in the lineup, with Varsho batting sixth. Their bottom third is comprised of Ernie Clement, Joey Loperfido, and Ty France, the latter will DH and is the only lineup change.
Let’s set up Tuesday evening’s game!
