The Toronto Blue Jays are right back where they started.
After Friday evening’s 3-1 defeat, the Blue Jays once again have a .500 record as they dropped to 25-25. From now on, they’ll be known as the Toronto .500’s.
It must be said that this team is very inconsistent. When everything clicks, they look great and tend to sweep a series. However, the last time they’ve won a three-game series two games to one was back in late April, with their two series wins since then being sweeps of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. The rest of the series have seen them win one, but lose two. It’s been good enough to keep them at .500, but they have to start winning some series in a row soon.
The Blue Jays are rolling out their optimal lineup. Bo Bichette leads off, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bats second, and Daulton Varsho hits in the three spot once again. The middle six comprises George Springer in clean-up, Alejandro Kirk in the five spot, and a returning Anthony Santander batting sixth. Addison Barger, Ernie Clement, and Nathan Lukes make up the bottom three. Once Andres Gimenez returns, he can replace Clement, and that’d be a solid lineup.
Jose Berrios makes his 11th start of the season, coming into the game with a 4.19 ERA and a 4.71 FIP. In those 10 starts, Berrios has just two decisions, a win and a loss. In his last start on May 18, he threw six innings with two earned runs, but the Jays eventually lost 3-2. He needs some run support.
With that being said, let’s set up Saturday evening’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays!
