The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to extend their win streak to eight.
After sweeping the New York Yankees earlier in the week, the Blue Jays have already taken two games from the Angels to win their 10th series in their last 12. This has given the Blue Jays the American League East division lead, as well as a three-game cushion.
Winning Sunday’s finale is easier said than done, though. The Angels will start Tyler Anderson on the mound, one of their better starters, as he has a 4.12 ERA this season. The Angels are also around a playoff spot thanks to a 43-45 record.
Before the game, the Blue Jays made a handful of moves, placing Andrés Giménez on the 10-day Injured List, optioning Lázaro Estrada, reinstating Ryan Burr, and calling up Joey Loperfido. To make room for Burr on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays designated Will Robertson for assignment.
Speaking of Loperfido, he’s in right field in batting eighth, behind Myles Straw and ahead of Leo Jiménez to make up their bottom third. Ernie Clement leads off, followed by George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Bo Bichette, Alejandro Kirk, and Davis Schneider make up the middle third of the Jays’ lineup on Sunday. Addison Barger isn’t in the lineup, but should be available off the bench in a pinch-hitting scenario.
It wasn’t Gausman’s best start the last time out, giving up two earned runs in five innings of work. The game before that was his best of the season, going eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
Let’s set up the series finale against the Angels!
