The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for another series victory.
Returning from the All-Star break on Friday, the Blue Jays scored all four of their runs in the second inning against the San Francisco Giants in a 4-0 victory.
The Jays are in for a tougher matchup on Saturday afternoon, as they’ll be facing Giants’ ace Logan Webb. This season, the right-handed pitcher has a 2.94 ERA and 2.52 FIP in 125.2 innings, with a career-best 27.1 K% and 5.5 BB%.
On the mound for the Blue Jays is Eric Lauer, who has a 2.78 ERA and 3.37 FIP in 55 innings pitched. In his last start on July 10, the left-handed pitcher pitched four innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven in the game, the Blue Jays’ 10-game winning streak ended. Since June 11, Lauer has a 3.41 ERA and 2.91 FIP in 29 innings pitched; you’ll take that from your fifth starter.
Getting a rest day is Alejandro Kirk, who called out the trainers on Friday after taking an awkward swing. Thankfully, he finished the game, and this just seems to be a scheduled day off behind the plate. Bo Bichette got drilled in the ribs by a 95 mph fastball from Justin Verlander, but he’s in Saturday afternoon’s lineup.
Speaking about the lineup, Nathan Lukes once again leads off. As a lead-off hitter this season, the outfielder is slashing .414/.469/.655 with a home run in 33 plate appearances. Following Lukes is George Springer, who had a three-hit game after floundering at the plate since winning the American League Player of the Week award. Batting third is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., he really needs to get going.
Bichette is back in clean-up,  followed by Addison Barger and Joey Loperfido. The latter has been fantastic since his call-up and is slashing .412/.474/.647 with a home run in 19 plate appearances. Toronto’s bottom third in the lineup is comprised of Ernie Clement, Will Wagner, and Tyler Heineman.
