The Toronto Blue Jays made a move to supplement their beleaguered bullpen, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will remain out after exiting Tuesday’s game against the Nationals with right hamstring tightness.

Right-hander Chad Dallas was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, the Blue Jays announced on Wednesday. 

In two appearances with the Blue Jays this season, the 26-year-old has pitched to a 1.93 ERA with three strikeouts and two walks over 4.2 innings. As a starter with Buffalo, he’s thrown up to a maximum of five innings and 72 pitches. In 16 games (12 starts) with the Bisons this season, Dallas is 0-3 with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.

CJ Van Eyk was optioned to Buffalo as the corresponding move. Through three outings with the Blue Jays this season, Van Eyk is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP. Across 5.2 innings pitched, the 27-year-old has struck out one batter and allowed opponents to hit .393.

Meanwhile, Guerrero, who appeared to sustain the injury while running the bases in the top of the third inning, will remain off his feet.

“It was a little sore; he wanted to stay in, but it was my call just to be careful with him and not have anything worse happen,” Manager John Schneider told reporters after the game on Tuesday.

Guerrero is in the midst of his worst offensive season, with six home runs and 44 RBIs over 103 games. His .702 OPS and 99 wRC+ would be career lows.

After Guerrero left on Tuesday, Van Eyk did his best to save the bullpen, throwing 61 pitches over 3.1 innings. But it proved to be a difficult task following the shortest start of Shane Bieber’s career (0.2 innings).

Van Eyk, Brendon Little, Mason Fluharty and Jeff Hoffman have all seen heavy usage of late, creating a need for length out of the bullpen that Dallas can provide.
