The Toronto Blue Jays’ injury woes continued on Monday night.
Newly acquired Jameson Taillon, who was making his first home start with the club and second overall, left the contest after throwing four shutout innings. Per Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae, Taillon was removed with right forearm tightness.
Taillon had turned in a pitching line of 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K and had thrown 61 pitches to work through his four frames. After the completion of the top of the fourth, Taillon was seen having a discussion with both manager John Schneider and pitching coach Pete Walker before being replaced by Simeon Woods Richardson to open the top of the fifth.
Across 17 starts this season with both the Chicago Cubs and Blue Jays, Taillon is 2-6 with a 5.68 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. The right-hander has struck out 75 batters across 84 innings and has been hit at a .253 clip.
In two outings with the Blue Jays, Taillon has posted a 3.38 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP across eight innings with his new team. In the final season of his four-year, $68 million contract, Taillon is looking for a strong finish before heading into free agency.
With a rotation that dealt away Kevin Gausman to the Cubs, and is dealing with injuries to Trey Yesavage and Spencer Arrighetti, the Blue Jays are starting to get thin as they try and cover innings over the final month and a half of the regular season.
