Blue Jays Minor League Musings: Blaine Bullard and Hedbert Perez’ three-hit game, Ismael Munguia on a tear

While no player in the Toronto Blue Jays organization had a multi-home run game on Thursday, there were still some standout performances.
The best of the bunch was Hedbert Perez for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. They lost 10-5, but Perez went 3-3 with a walk. A Rule 5 pick in the minor league portion last December, Perez is batting .317/.423/.611 with nine home runs and 10 doubles in 149 plate appearances this season.
Now, some of those plate appearances were while he was on a rehab assignment in the lower-minors, but he’s been terrific in Double-A as well. Over 31 games, the outfielder is batting .284/.407/.520 with five home runs and nine doubles in 123 plate appearances, good for a 147 wRC+.
Spencer Miles was a terrific pick up in the Rule 5 draft, but Perez is starting to look like a top 30 prospect in the team’s farm system. It helps that he was rated rather highly shortly after he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers back in the summer of 2019.
Overall, it wasn’t a great game for the Fisher Cats, falling 10-5 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Perez hit one of three doubles, with Eddie Micheletti Jr. and Jacob Sharp hitting the other two. Micheletti Jr., Arjun Nimmala, and Cade Doughty all had a two-hit game.
The lone home run hit by the Fisher Cats came off the bat of Dub Gleed. He’s having a breakout season like Perez, extending his career-best home run total to 12. Pitching wasn’t great for the Fisher Cats, with T.J. Brock giving up four of the 10 runs in his first Double-A game since July 5th, 2024.

The top of the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays lineup won them the game on Wednesday, and it was the same story on Thursday. Blaine Bullard was the standout performer, going 3-5 with three singles. JoJo Parker obviously had a great game, going 2-5 with a triple and three strikeouts. He’s far too good for Single-A at this point.

Juan Sanchez hit one of two doubles in this game, with Dean West’s being the first of his professional career. Jake Cook extended his on-base streak to 14 games. Since July 7th, he’s slashing .386/.485/.474 for a 164 wRC+. There haven’t been many better hitters in the organization this July.
Two 2026 draftees/non-draft free agents made their debut on Thursday as well. Nolan Higgins, selected in the fifth-round, fired a clean outing for a hold. Gavin Seebold, a NDFA, struck out a batter in a scoreless inning, picking up his first professional save. Solid outing from Giacomo Taschin as well, surrendering two runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings pitched, all while striking out four.

Despite a doubleheader, not a whole lot of notes from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons’ games. They won the first on 1-0 thanks to two hits by Ismael Munguia. Grant Rogers started the game and fired three scoreless innings. In the second game, a 5-3 loss, Munguia went 3-4 with his sixth double of the season. Rudy Martin Jr. drove in all three runs thanks to a two-hit game, while Eloy Jiménez also had a two-hit performance.
In High-A, the Vancouver Canadians fell 9-7 to Spokane. Alexis Hernandez had a strong game, notching two hits including his 16th double of the season. Peyton Williams hit his 20th double of the season, and Dariel Ramon hit his first career High-A triple. Daniel Guerra returned to the mound for the C’s, throwing two innings and giving up three walks and an earned run, striking out two in the process.
Lastly, both Dominican Summer League teams were in action on Thursday. DSL Blue Jays Blue fell 9-7 to the DSL Arizona Black, but Juan Caricote hit his fourth home run of the season. Frelian Flores hit his third double.
In the DSL Blue Jays Red’s 6-3 victory over the DSL Mets Orange, Diego Acre hit his second home run of the season that drove in two runs. Samuel Orellana hit his ninth double and is now batting .341, while Cristhian Duarte threw four and one-third innings with six strikeouts, bringing his ERA to 3.15.
