Blue Jays Minor League Musings: DSL standouts, Javen Coleman makes Bisons debut, and Landen Maroudis’ strong start

It’s been a busy past few days in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system.
On Saturday, the Florida Complex League’s title defence came to an end, falling 4-2 to the FCL Rays in the semifinals. That has ended their season, meaning that there are just six teams still playing.
Their two other rookie league teams saw some notable performances over the last few days, though. On Thursday, the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays Red defeated the DSL Tigers 1 by a score of 9-8. Catcher Samuel Orellana was the standout performer, hitting his eighth double in a three-hit game. Starter Cristhian Duarte struck out three over five innings of one-run ball to bring his season ERA to 3.00.
The following day, the DSL Blue Jays Red defeated the DSL Arizona Black thanks to eight late runs. This time, outfielder Aneudi Severino stood out, hitting his sixth home run in a two-hit game, driving in three of the eight runs. Diego Arce, Frelian Flores, and Elian Reyes each hit a double as well.
Both of the Blue Jays’ DSL teams won on Saturday, with the DSL Blue Jays Red extending their winning streak to four thanks to a 4-0 victory. While there weren’t any standout performers from that game, the DSL Blue Jays Blue defeated the DSL NYY Bombers 12-6.
Standing out from this game was 17-year-old shortstop Sebastian Casanova, who went 4-4 with his fourth double of the season, as well as two walks. Signed in the 2026 IFA period, Casanova is now slashing .370/.441/.412 for a 124 wRC+, though he has yet to hit his first career long-ball.
There were other notable performances at the “A” levels over the last three days as well. In the Dunedin Blue Jays’ 2-0 victory on Thursday, 2025 third-rounder Jake Cook hit his second professional home run, his first off an actual pitcher. Daniel Guerra, on a rehab assignment, struck out five over three and one-third scoreless innings.
On that same day, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons fell 5-2 to the Rochester Red Wings, losing 5-2 in the 10th. Josh Kasevich continues to be red hot, going 3-4 with a walk and his 17th double of the season. Despite a loss, starter Richard Gallardo had a strong out, striking out six over four scoreless innings. Javen Coleman made his Triple-A debut, but allowed two earned runs.
Thankfully, Coleman had a better outing his second time around on Saturday. The Bisons won that game 3-1, as Je’Von Ward hit a two-run blast for his 11th home run of the season. Their other run came courtesy of a Charles McAdoo triple, which was paired by a strong start by Chad Dallas, and Coleman two strikeouts in the top of the ninth for his first Triple-A save.
This victory extended the Bisons’ winning streak to two games, as they won 7-6 on Friday. Unsurprisingly, Kasevich was the standout, going 3-4 with his fourth home run and 18th double of the season. 
Daz Cameron, C.J. Stubbs, Carlos Mendoza, and Ward all hit a home run, with Ward becoming the 13th player in the organization to hit double-digit home runs. For context, only 16 players hit double-digit home runs last season.
Another player who has hit double-digit home runs is Dub Gleed. In the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ 5-4 loss on Friday, the former Miami Marlin prospect hit his 11th long-ball of the season, his third in Double-A. He had just two all of last season. Nick Goodwin hit his 16th double, and Austin Cates struck out four in five innings of two-run ball.
This week started off so well for the High-A Vancouver Canadians, but they dropped Thursday and Friday’s games. A 7-0 victory over the Hillsboro Hops on Saturday got them back in the win column, and it’s safe to say this was Landen Maroudis’ best start as a professional.
After striking out seven in five innings of one run ball in his last start, Maroudis pitched six scoreless innings with four strikeouts and three walks on Saturday. The Blue Jays’ fourth-round pick in 2023 still has a 6.86 ERA, but these last two starts have been encouraging for a player who missed time thanks to Tommy John surgery.
Additionally, all nine position players who started this game had a hit. Eric Snow, who is now batting .304 since joining the C’s, went 2-4 with two singles, as did Maddox Latta. Alexis Hernandez hit his 14th double of the season and J.R. Freethy hit his first double of the season.
The D-Jays were set to play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the Blue Jays’ Single-A team losing the first game 7-5. Their second game was suspended in the top of the sixth, and is one of five games Blue Jays’ affiliates will play on Sunday.
