The Florida Complex League Blue Jays are right back in the win column.
After suffering their first defeat of the season, an 11-8 loss at the hands of the FCL Tigers, the Toronto Blue Jays‘ FCL team responded with a 4-3 victory over the FCL Tigers on Friday. With that win, they now have a 9-1 record, the best record in the FCL North division, as they look to defend their FCL championship.
Despite starting the season 8-0, the FCL Jays didn’t hit their first home run until the 11-8 loss. Now, the flood gates are open, as Canadian corner infield Sam White hit his first and second professional home runs in Friday’s victory.
The Newmarket, Ontario native is slashing .348/.500/.652 with three extra-base hits in his first 10 professional games. White signed as a non-drafted free agent following the draft. With West Virginia last season, White slashed .361/.426/.529 with five home runs in 223 plate appearances, down from his 10 homers the season prior.
White had just two of FCL Jays’ four hits, with Angel Guzman hitting a double and Gavin Smith hitting a single. None of their three pitchers, Angel Rivero, Jhon Rivas, and Noah Palmese gave up an earned run. Rivero started the game, walking three and striking out four over two and two-thirds innings.
Others notes….
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were swept in their doubleheader against the Reading Fightin Phils, but there were still positives. Gage Stanifer had one of his best starts of the season, striking out nine in five innings of two-run ball, only one run was earned.
Stanifer departed with a 2-0 lead, but was given a no decision as Victor Arias hit his third home run of the season, a two-run homer. Since joining the Double-A Fisher Cats last week, the outfield prospect is slashing .368/.400/1.053 with three home runs in just 20 plate appearances, good enough for a 252 wRC+. In the end, the Fisher Cats lost that game 4-2.
They dropped the second game of the doubleheader as well, falling 3-2. Two of their five hits were of the extra-base variety, as Jay Harry hit his second home run of the season and Sean Keys hit his sixth double of the season. Arjun Nimmala had a two-hit game and is now batting .400 since his promotion.
Harry DESTROYED that ball! 🚀
Every other game in the Blue Jays’ system resulted in a win. The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons defeated the Worcester Red Sox thanks to a three-hit, three-RBI game from Josh Kasevich. Additionally, Je’Von Ward hit his fourth Triple-A double and his first home run at the level. On the mound, CJ Van Eyk went six and one-third innings with two earned runs allowed to bring his ERA to 3.08.
HAVE YOURSELF A NIGHT JE'VON WARD! HIS FIRST TRIPLE-A HOME RUN 🗣️
Down to their final out, the Dunedin Blue Jays tied the game thanks to an Eric Snow base hit, then won it 9-8 in extra innings. Snow was the big stand out from this game, going 3-6, all three of those hits being singles. Aldo Gaxiola hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in four.
The High-A Vancouver Canadians were rained out, meaning they host a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Moreover, the four other teams are in action as well.
