The Toronto Blue Jays’ organization continues to see success with pitchers across their minor league levels.
On Monday, Dunedin Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Watts was named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week. During his outing on Friday, May 29, Watts tossed 5.1 hitless innings to pick up his second win of the 2026 season.
Watts was tasked with entering during the top of the fourth inning with Dunedin trailing 3-1. The 21-year-old cruised through the Clearwater Threshers’ lineup, turning in a pitching line of 5.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K to allow the D-Jays’ lineup to rally for an 8-3 win in 10 innings.
The Blue Jays selected Watts in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of the University of Auburn. At the time, Watts was a relatively unknown prospect. Coming off two seasons at Auburn, he mostly worked as a reliever and posted a record of 2-5 with a 7.25 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 58.1 innings. During his time in college, Watts flashed a strikeout ability, retiring 61 batters via the punchout over his 58.1 frames with strong control, allowing only 2.6 BB/9 innings.
While these numbers don’t jump off the page, Watts made the jump to professional baseball to begin the 2026 season in Single-A with the D-Jays. Watts has taken the promotion in stride, appearing in 10 games (four starts), and posting a 2-0 record with a 3.58 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. Watts’ strikeout ability has translated to the pro level, totalling 35 across his 32.2 innings pitched.
Watts’ walk rate has risen to 3.0 BB/9 innings, but the right-hander still remains sharp in his ability to attack the zone against opposing lineups. After recording a 4.26 ERA during the month of April, Watts has turned in a stronger May, recording a 3.15 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 20 innings pitched. Watts’ May finished with two relief outings in which Watts tossed 9.1 innings, allowing only one run on four hits, while recording eight strikeouts.
Still only 21, Watts remains a ways away from impacting the Blue Jays at the minor league level, but the right-hander has the chance to work his way up the ranks in the Blue Jays’ system if he continues to prove he is capable of success with Dunedin.
Watts was on the only Blue Jay prospect to receive “of the week” honours, but last week, Alexis Hernandez and Nolan Perry won Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively. The right-handed pitcher is the eighth Blue Jays prospect to earn “of the Week” honours this season.
