Toronto Blue Jays prospect and Victoria, B.C. product Sam Shaw is starting to find his groove again.

Injuries derailed Shaw’s 2025 season, limiting him to just 69 games across Single-A and High-A. That injury carried over into the new season, with Shaw starting the campaign on the IL until mid-May, where he got into some rehab game action with the FCL Blue Jays.

Earlier this week, Shaw was moved to Dunedin in his next step of the rehab process, and the left-handed bat had a successful day at the plate.

Facing the Clearwater Threshers on May 27th, Shaw slotted second in the lineup, sandwiched between Blaine Bullard and JoJo Parker, and was taking reps in left field. Shaw got off to a rough start at the plate, striking out on six pitches via the swinging K – both Bullard and Parker found the same fate in the first inning.

Shaw then bounced back with a single in the top of the third inning, driving a 91 MPH fastball back up the middle into centre field. The Canuck put a good swing on the ball, registering a 106 MPH exit velocity. Shaw would use his wheels to score from first when Parker drove a double to right field, putting a couple of runs on the board for the Blue Jays.

He would walk in his next at-bat, laying off two borderline pitches low in the zone to get on base, but would be stranded at the first base bag. Shaw would return to the plate at the top of the seventh inning, where he collected another single. After working to a 1-1 count, Shaw drove an outside changeup the other way, a slow dribbler that he was able to beat out. Shaw would score again later in the inning, cutting the Threshers’ lead to 16-5. The left-handed bat would strike out in the top of the eighth to cap off the night.

Shaw would go 2 for 4 on the day with one walk, two runs scored, and two strikeouts. The 21-year-old put some really solid swings on the baseball and used his plus speed to get on base with an infield single as well. In the outfield, Shaw had two balls hit his way in left field, and he handled them well.

The rehab process will likely see Shaw finish the weekend in Dunedin before potentially making the jump to High-A Vancouver for next week.
