For the fourth consecutive series, the <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/">Toronto Blue Jays</a> picked up a series win.

This past weekend, the Blue Jays won two of three against the Minnesota Twins, their second straight “tough opponent”. They also took two of three<a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/toronto-blue-jays-series-recap-jays-best-phillies-three-game-series"> from the Philadelphia Phillies last week</a>.

As they’ve done all seasons, the Blue Jays found a way to <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/instant-reaction-toronto-blue-jays-take-first-game-minnesota-twins-series-extend-win-streak-three-games">come back in Friday’s game</a>, going down 3-0 but eventually winning the game 6-4. Addison Barger hit another home run while George Springer hit his ninth home run of the season. Paxton Schultz gave up three earned runs in two innings, but it was a successful bullpen day for the Jays.
Down 3-2 heading into the top of the eighth in <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/instant-reaction-toronto-blue-jays-come-from-behind-19th-time-5-4-win-twins">Saturday’s game</a>, Springer hit a clutch two-run home run to take a 4-3 lead, with the Jays tacking on an additional run in the top of the ninth. Despite Jeff Hoffman giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, the Jays were able to hang on for a 5-4 victory, their fourth straight win.
Unfortunately, <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/instant-reaction-toronto-blue-jays-fall-6-3-twins-series-finale">their win streak was snapped on Sunday</a>. The first few innings saw numerous lead changes, but two home runs given up by Bowden Francis in the bottom of the fourth sunk the Jays’ chances of winning the series finale. At the end of the game, the Twins won 6-3.
Of the regulars, Springer had a terrific series, hitting two of the Blue Jays’ four home runs for a 240 wRC+. Barger also hit a home run, giving him a 100 wRC+ as he batted just .167. Andres Gimenez had a good series, finishing with a 132 wRC+, as did Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who finished the series with a 123 wRC+. Alan Roden finished with a 105 wRC+, hitting a double in four plate appearances.
It was a tough series for Bo Bichette, slashing .083/.154/.083 for a -32 wRC+. Ernie Clement also had a subpar weekend series, slashing .167/.167/.167 for a -13 wRC+. Alejandro Kirk and Nathan Lukes were the two other regulars who struggled.
Tyler Heineman is the best backup catcher in baseball, finishing the series slashing .750/.750/1.500 with a home run in four plate appearances, his second home run of the season. This season, the switch-hitting catcher is batting .429/.441/.625 for a 203 wRC+, along with above-average defence.
The Blue Jays&#8217; relievers had a good series, finishing with a 2.45 ERA and a 3.27 FIP in 14.2 innings pitched. They also struck out 26.2% of the batters they faced, but had a high walk rate of 12.3%. Individually, Mason Fluharty, Brendon Little, and Hoffman all gave up earned runs. However, Braydon Fisher, Schultz, Eric Lauer, Yariel Rodriguez, and Chad Green all pitched scoreless outings.
Their starters didn’t have the same success. Schultz started a game, giving up three earned runs in two innings of work for a 13.50 ERA as a starter. Bowden Francis gave up four earned runs in three and one-third innings, another tough outing for the 29-year-old. Kevin Gausman gave up three earned runs in six innings, finishing with a 4.50 ERA and a quality start.
The Blue Jays’ tough schedule continues in their next series, as they take on the 36-29 St. Louis Cardinals for a three-game series starting Monday.
