The Toronto Blue Jays have signed another one of their 2025 draft prospects.
It was reported by MLB.com’s Jim Callis on Saturday afternoon that they’ve signed Canadian third baseman Tim Piasentin to a bonus of $747,500. This is an over-slot deal, as the slot value for the 143rd overall pick is $503,800.
Born in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Piasentin attended Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks, Alberta. Before the draft, he ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 160th best draft prospect, noted for his above-average power from the left side of the plate, as well as a strong arm for third base. The hit tool is a concern, and he whiffs on pitches; moreover, he could move to a corner outfield spot or first base.
If he begins his professional career after draft camp, you can expect the 18-year-old to begin with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays. Piasentin wasn’t the only Canadian player drafted by the Blue Jays, as they selected Micah Bucknam in the round before him.
With Piasentin’s signing, the Blue Jays have now signed 17 of 19 draft picks, according to Baseball America’s draft tracker. Jared Spencer signed for $165,000, with $15,000 going towards their bonus pool. Jordan Rich, Noah Palmese, Casey Jake, Jaxson West, and Luke Kovach all signed for slot value for rounds 11-20 ($150,000). Will Creswell signed for $100,000.
As for the remainder of their picks in the top 10 rounds, Eric Snow signed for $381,100, Dylan Watts signed for $197,500, and Karson Ligon signed for $125,000. There is very little money left in their bonus pool, but they only have one more player to sign in Trace Baker. The 13th-round pick has a slot value of $150,000, so this should be done sooner rather than later.
It was expected, but Ty Peeples won’t be signed, as the Blue Jays used all their signings between Piasentin and Blaine Bullard.
