Following three seasons in the Independent Pioneer League, right-hander Reece Fields has joined the Toronto Blue Jays organization, agreeing to a minor-league deal per the club’s transaction log.

The 24-year-old Fields, an undrafted product out of North Greenville University, signed with the Missoula PaddleHeads after graduating in 2024 and had pitched to a 3.51 ERA with 18 walks and 54 strikeouts across 48.2 innings in 14 games (five starts) earlier this season. He primarily worked as a starter during his collegiate career and as a rookie in Indy Ball, but has mostly spent the last two seasons as a multi-inning reliever.

The South Carolina native made his organizational debut in the Florida Complex League on Saturday, allowing one run on a hit and three walks with one strikeout across three innings in a semi-final loss to the Tampa Bay Rays’ FCL affiliate. He’ll now likely be assigned to Single-A Dunedin in the coming days.

Fields enjoyed a breakout season with North Greenville in 2022, sporting a 3.81 ERA alongside a career-high 101 strikeouts over 101.2 innings as a full-time starter. He earned the win during his school’s national championship game and was also named Division II World Series MVP.

In college, Fields’ arsenal included six pitches: three fastballs (four-seamer, sinker, cutter), two breaking balls (curveball, slider) and a changeup. But as a reliever, he’ll need to trim his repertoire down to his best three or four pitches.
