Blue Jays farm system roster moves: Tucker Toman, Eric Snow promoted, Cade Doughty and others released

With the draft and Major League Baseball trade deadline coming and going, the Toronto Blue Jays have had some notable transactions in their farm system the last few days.
Some of the recently acquired players have been assigned to the team they’ll likely finish the season with, some earned promotions, and others were released.
Starting in the former category, Brett Bateman, acquired in the Kevin Gausman trade, was sent to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. As were Josh Stephan (acquired in the Adam Macko trade) and John Klein (acquired in the Jeff Hoffman deal).
Dameury Pena and Dasan Hill, two other players acquired in the Hoffman trade, were assigned to the High-A Vancouver Canadians. As was Ty Southisene, another player acquired in the Gausman deal.
To make room on the Canadians roster, a few standouts for the Canadians were promoted to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Tucker Toman, drafted 77th overall in 2022, is one of those players.
Solely batting from the left side of the plate this season, the infielder was slashing .274/.399/.449 with 11 home runs in 336 plate appearances, good for a 131 wRC+. More importantly, Toman’s K% sat at 25%, while he posted a 14.9 BB%. It’s a well earned promotion.
The two other players on the move from High-A to Double-A are Alexis Hernandez and Eric Snow. Hernandez, a minor league Rule 5 pick back in 2023, slashed.284/.382/.513 with 14 home runs in 329 plate appearances, good for a 136 wRC+.
Snow, drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 draft, batted .306/.371/.422 with three home runs in 167 plate appearances in High-A. Double-A will be his third level this season. Nick Goodwin and Mason Olson were both demoted from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons as well.
With the Blue Jays acquiring prospects in both the draft and trade deadline, it required them to release some players. Caleb Freeman, Eloy Jiménez, and Jorge Alcala are all players who have big league experience in the past, but a few prospects were also released.
The most notable of the bunch is Cade Doughty, who was selected one pick after Toman and one pick before Roman Anthony. One of the best collegiate contact hitters in the 2022 draft, Doughty never seemed to figure it out as a professional.
After a solid 2023 where he hit 18 home runs in 424 plate appearances in High-A, Doughty struggled to stay healthy and didn’t perform well when he was able to.
Other players released were Jorge Burgos, Chris McElvain, Noah Palmese, Conor Larkin, and. Mason Davenport. McElvain was acquired in the Santiago Espinal deal before the start of the 2024 season.
