Toronto Blue Jays prospect Sean Keys’ incredible season has continued.
Called up before Saturday afternoon’s game, Keys appeared in his third game on Wednesday afternoon. After notching his first big league hit in his debut, the corner infielder hit his first career home run on Canada Day.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Jays started a two-out rally. After Ernie Clement hit an RBI double, Sean Keys stepped up to the plate with two on. He got a 96.1 mph fastball on a 1-0 pitch, getting just enough to put it over the left field fence for his first career home run. The home run came off the bat at 95.6 mph, and he also picked up his first three career RBIs.
It has been a rapid ascent up the minor league ladder for Keys. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, he appeared in 22 games with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays to end the 2024 season. All of his 2025 was spent with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he led the organization with 19 home runs in a pitcher friendly park.
Before his call-up, Keys was slashing .284/.409/.619 with 21 home runs in 286 plate appearances for a 164 wRC+, splitting his time between the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
The Blue Jays offence has been lethargic all season, with their home run total sitting in the bottom third among Major League Baseball teams. While he’s not a perfect fit given his positioning and handedness, Keys has plenty of pop that could end up sparking the offence.
Last season, the Jays had a memorable victory at Rogers Centre over the New York Yankees. It was the third win in what ended up being an 11-game winning streak. Hopefully, the Blue Jays can get going in July as they sit three and a half games out of a wild spot entering Wednesday afternoon’s game.
