Another month, another sad Troy Tulowitzki update: According to Mike Wilner, there’s no timetable for the shortstop’s return. This is the shortstop whose injured ankle apparently “felt great” this spring and wasn’t ruled out of March’s home opener until the break between the American and Canadian National Anthems before the season’s first game against the Yankees.

Not only am I not sure if he’ll ever play again for the ball club, I cannot confidently tell you that I ever remember seeing him. Ever. To my recollection, he’s just a guy that we hear about every month progressing towards something, which honestly, is kind of admirable because we’re all trying to better ourselves in our own lives.

The Blue Jays clearly punted Ryan Goins in favour of Aledmys Diaz this winter because they knew what we were fearing all along, the fact that you probably can’t bank on Troy Tulowitzki playing any significant time.

With all the injuries, age, and steadily declining play on both offense and defense, you can’t help but think this is the beginning of the end for the soon-to-be-34-year-old. And it sucks because shit, even with all the frustrations over his career, he really seemed like a decent guy to his teammates both on and off the field.

Hopefully your friends at Blue Jays Nation will have better Tulowitzki news next month, but it really feels grim right now, doesn’t it?
