Vlad, Biggio, and Pearson playing in Fall Stars game
Each year during Arizona Fall League play, Major League Baseball hosts a “Fall Stars” game featuring some of the best prospects playing in the extended league. This isn’t an All-Star game per se, as it isn’t based on AFL stats or performance. Instead, the point of these rosters is to showcase as many high-quality prospects as possible.
The Jays will have three prospects playing in the Fall Stars game. Baseball’s No. 1 prospect, Vlad Jr, of course, is headlining the whole thing. Joining him will be Cavan Biggio and Nate Pearson.
- Vlad has been crushing it in the AFL so far. He has 24 hits in 52 at bats, including seven doubles and 14 runs batted in. That’s all good for a 1.096 OPS. Not bad!
- Biggio isn’t doing quite so hot at the plate. The impending Eastern League Most Valuable Player has struggled at the plate, posting just a .741 OPS. Of course, Biggio has played a lot of baseball this year, and he’s mostly at extended ball in order to gain versatility playing in the outfield.
- Pearson had his entire 2018 season derailed due to injury so the AFL is all about him getting some reps so the year isn’t a complete throwaway. Pearson, Toronto’s top pitching prospect, has allowed 14 runs in 11 1/3 innings of work. A positive sign is that he’s struck out 16 batters, but he’s also struggling with command as he’s issued 11 free passes.
