The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of a sweep over the Los Angeles Angels following Tuesday’s 6-1 victory.
Kevin Gausman got the start for Toronto and cruised through seven scoreless innings, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Ryan Burr struck out the side in the eighth inning and Erik Swanson allowed a solo home run to Willie Calhoun in the ninth for Los Angeles’ only run of the game.
The Blue Jays tagged Angels’ starter Carson Fulmer to give Gausman an early lead to work with. The team put together a three-run first-inning rally, highlighted by a two-out, two-run double hit by Will Wagner, who followed up his excellent Major League debut with another couple of hits in his second.
Fulmer had a three-up, three-down second inning and then the Blue Jays got to him again in the third, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Spencer Horwitz hit back-to-back solo home runs to make the score 5-0. It was Guerrero’s 24th home run of the season and Horwitz’s sixth.

The Angels pulled Fulmer after three innings and went with left-hander Kenny Rosenberg for the bulk of the game. He pitched five innings and allowed only one run, which came in the eighth after Leo Jiménez hit a double and Joey Loperfido drove him in with a single. The single snapped a six-game hitless drought for Loperfido.
The Blue Jays will look to complete the sweep over Los Angeles on Wednesday. José Berríos will get the start for Toronto and All-Star Tyler Anderson will go for the Angels.
