Blue Jays pitcher Genesis Cabrera threw a ball he didn't want at Boone in the dugout, so Boone fired it right back at the Jays 😂

The New York Yankees won the rubber match of this weekend’s series against the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to a 10th-inning walk-off single from DJ LeMahieu late Sunday afternoon. The game wound up being a nearly six-hour marathon because of an extended rain delay in the middle but they managed to get the series finished.
The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the second inning after back-to-back doubles from Alejandro Kirk and Addison Barger off of New York starter Gerrit Cole. Ernie Clement drove in Barger later in the inning to put Toronto up 2-0. These were the only two runs that the Blue Jays would score off of the 2023 American League Cy Young winner over his five-and-two-thirds innings.
Yariel Rodríguez got the start for the Blue Jays and had a nice rebound after his disastrous outing earlier this week in Baltimore. The right-hander scattered four hits and one walk over four-and-two-thirds scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and saw his ERA on the season move down to 3.86.
Rodríguez was pulled from the game after getting the first two outs of the fifth inning. Brendon Little came in and walked three batters (one intentionally), so he was lifted for Zach Pop, who struck out Giancarlo Stanton with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Pop came out again for the sixth and allowed singles to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe before handing the ball off to Ryan Yarbrough, who made his first appearance as a Blue Jay. The long-time Tampa Bay Ray allowed one run to score on a groundout and another to come in on a sacrifice fly before getting out of the inning.
The Yankees pulled ahead in the seventh inning thanks to a home run from Juan Soto but the Blue Jays answered back in the eighth with a run of their own. Joey Loperfido reached on an error and he came around to score after a couple of walks and a sacrifice fly.
The middle of the eighth went on for quite some time as rain poured down on Yankee Stadium. When the game resumed, both teams had opportunities to score but it wasn’t until the 10th inning that New York was able to complete the win. Trent Grisham put down a bunt that moved ghost runner Anthony Volpe over to third base and DJ LeMahieu walked things off with a single up the middle.
Up next… The Blue Jays will be off on Monday before returning home to host a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
