Finally

After much spilled ink and post after post of speculation, it’s finally happening. Vlad Jr. is being called up to make his Major League debut on Friday.

Thank fuck this whole saga is over. Welcome to the Vlad era.

How sweet. But you know, deep in your heart, we will be inundated with “Why won’t they extend Vladdy???” articles and posts starting…well, any minute now.

Here’s some Vlad stats, just for fun.

He’ll make his major league debut at 20 yrs, 44 days old.

In 288 minor league games, he slashed .331/.414/.529 with 115 xbh.

He finishes his minor league career with 150 walks versus 139 strikeouts.

He stole bases with a 69% rate of success (27 for 39).

I’m on the record as saying I’m for the service time gaming, because I want to see him play for as many good Jays teams as is possible. I could give two shits about his money or the team’s. I just want to see winning baseball.

That said, with those numbers, his defence could be worse than a guy with cp trying to field with a cast iron frying pan and I’ll be happy to watch him hit every day.

So Teoscar. Yup, I agree. But I think his D will be better than the talking horses in Toronto sports media expects.

    • Barry

When he filled in for Wilner last weekend, Chris Leroux spent considerable time talking about how Jays’ pitchers would be unhappy with Vlad’s defence. I found myself angry with Wagner for not saying “no one gives a shit.”

There will be a ton of attention on him tomorrow, but he seems like the kind of player who eats that sort of thing up and turns it into fuel. I base this solely on his Montreal walk-off, but I’m okay with the one-swing sample-size.
