The Blue Jays’ Major League pitching depth took a massive hit as the team blew things up at the trade deadline, selling off Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini, David Phelps, and Daniel Hudson. Charlie Montoyo is now being tasked with navigating late innings with Derek Law in high-leverage situations and guys who you’ve never heard of like Buddy Boshers next in line.
Long story short, the Jays are in need of some more band-aids to fill holes as the team casually rolls to the end of the season.
#BlueJays have signed 30-year-old right-hander Neil Ramirez to a minor-league deal.
Slated to start ramping up with High-A Dunedin after pitching to a 5.40 ERA across 16.2 innings with Cleveland earlier this year.— Scott Mitchell (@ScottyMitchTSN) August 7, 2019
The Jays have apparently inked Neil Ramirez to a minor-league deal to help add some much-needed depth to the bullpen. Ramirez has pitched 16 2/3 unspectacular innings with Cleveland this season and was granted his release from the organization a few days ago. He’ll report to Single-A Dunedin where I imagine he’ll be stretched out a little bit in order to help gobble up innings at the Major League level.
Zack Godley has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays, sources say.

The Jays have also apparently claimed Zack Godley from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Just a couple years ago, Godley was a solid starter in Arizona, but he’s struggled the past two seasons. Godley was relegated into the bullpen this year and has posted a 6.39 ERA over the course of 76 innings. While the Ramirez signing is just for the sake of depth, Godley is actually an interesting bounce-back candidate for the Jays to use in garbage time.
Godley was DFA three days ago. He's 29, about to be first-time arb eligible. Right-hander having a tough year: 6.39 ERA, 5.28 FIP, just 58 strikeouts in 77 innings.
Had a 3.37 ERA in 155 innings two years ago & posted a 4.74 ERA in 178.1 innings last year #BlueJays
