by OddsShark (@OddsShark)

After dispatching the New York Yankees in the ALCS last week the Houston Astros will enter the World Series as the clear betting favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Astros are set as the -225 favorite (wager $225 to win $100) on the odds to win the World Series, with the Washington Nationals coming back as +180 underdogs (wager $100 to win $180) on those betting futures. Game 1 of the series is set for Tuesday night in Houston.

Houston needed the full five games to get past the Tampa Bay Rays in their ALDS, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in that series, losing the next two games, and then closing out the set with a 6-1 victory as -260 home favorites at sports betting sites on October 10. The OVER/UNDER went 2-2-1 for totals bettors in those five games as the Astros moved on to face the Yankees.

And the Astros lost the first game of the ALCS at home to New York by a lopsided 7-0 score as -145 favorites, then rolled to victories in the next three games before falling in Game 5 at New York as -140 road favorites. Houston then closed out the series in six games with a 6-4 win as -118 home favorites in Game 6 on October 19, nudging the OVER to 2-4 in that set.

The Nationals topped the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Game before going up against the favored Los Angeles Dodgers in their NLDS, losing the opener of that best-of-five set 6-0 on the road as +155 underdogs. Washington, though, tied up the series in Game 2, lost again in Game 3, tied the series up again in Game 4, and finally dispatched the Dodgers with a 7-3 victory in Game 5 on October 9 as +145 road underdogs. The OVER/UNDER went 2-3.

Washington then cruised past the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS, sweeping them in four games and outscoring them by a 20-6 margin in those contests capped off by a 7-4 victory as -162 home favorites in Game 4 on October 15. The OVER/UNDER split at 2-2 in that series.

The Nationals and the Astros haven’t met since August 2017, when Washington won that interleague series 2-1 on the road. Overall Washington is 15-5 in their last 20 matchups.

First pitch for Game 1 is set for just after 8pm ET on Tuesday night, with the Astros listed as -194 home favorites behind starting pitcher Gerrit Cole. The right-hander had one outing against the Yankees in the ALCS, throwing seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits.
