2026 Blue Jays draft picks Gable Mitchell and Bryce Chance debut in High-A Vancouver

While most of the Toronto Blue Jays’ 2026 MLB draft class opened their professional careers in Single-A with Dunedin, two joined High-A Vancouver and have fit right in.
Both infielder Gable Mitchell and outfielder Bryce Chance joined the Vancouver Canadians for their first games since being drafted, and it didn’t take long for either of them to get their first hits out of the way.
Mitchell, who was selected in the sixth round, 193rd overall out of the University of Iowa, debuted on Wednesday in the Canadians’ 5-3 win over the Spokane Indians. Batting leadoff, Mitchell opened the contest 0-for-2 before singling in his third at-bat of the evening. The 22-year-old finished his first game 1-for-4, a nice start at the professional level.
Flash forward to Friday: Mitchell was back in the Canadians’ leadoff spot and put together his first career multi-hit game. In his second at-bat of the contest, Mitchell drove a double to centre field before eventually coming around to score and give the Canadians a 3-0 lead.
After grounding into a double play in his third at-bat, Mitchell singled to left field for his second hit of the game. Mitchell was retired in his fifth and final plate appearance, but through two games, he is 3-for-9 with one run scored and has gotten off to a strong start at the plate.
A .360 hitter during his final season with the Hawkeyes, Mitchell has put his strong bat-to-ball skills on full display through his first two professional games.
The Blue Jays selected Chance in the 10th round, 312th overall out of Mississippi State University. Chance, like Mitchell, debuted on Wednesday with the Canadians, but the 23-year-old went 0-for-3 in his first game.
After a hitless debut, Chance got on the board with a single to left field in the bottom of the fourth during the Canadians’ 7-5 loss to the Indians. Hitting lower in the lineup, Chance is 1-for-7 over his first two games.
A four-year senior with the Bulldogs, Chance batted .349 with two home runs and 25 RBIs during his final season. The outfielder stole 13 bases, so keep an eye on Chance if he becomes a threat to nab bags with the Canadians.
